Title: Estimator

Location: Gorham, Maine

Client: RJ Grondin

RJ Grondin and Sons is seeking a proven leader to join the team as an Estimator. The position will involve the review of proposals, specifications, and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents to estimate, in addition to determining the suitability of the project for R. J. Grondin and Sons. Coordination with multiple team members, during the estimating process to verify the availability of resources to successfully bid the project.

What you’ll be doing:

• Experience performing quantity takeoff from civil, structural, plumbing, and site electric plans.
• Review, comprehend and apply geotechnical and environmental reports to the estimating process.
• Identify the scope of work and assemble subcontractor scope packages.
• Experience with development and assembly of Request for Proposals.
• Review plans and specifications to ensure estimate effort is in compliance with the request.
• Perform estimates from conceptual or schematic design documents.
• Solicit pricing from material vendors and subcontractors, evaluate responses, and make recommendations.
• Coordinate with other team members to develop an overall estimate on larger projects.
• Ensure compliance with company standards, evaluate risks and client requirements.
• Ensure estimates are complete, well organized, and ready for review by the management team.
• Understanding and ability to develop project schedules to ensure projects can be completed to meet owner requirements and that company resources are used efficiently.
• Address all potential safety risks and concerns to incorporate in the estimate.
• Develop innovative means and methods for completing projects to increase competitiveness and margins.
• Prepare proposals when necessary, and include information to document the basis of the proposal.
• Maintain base bid documents and organize estimate information.
• Coordinate with the project team, on successful bids, to provide a thorough transition to the execution of the contract.
• Monitor projects from successful bids to identify changes in scope and identify estimate deficiencies.

What you’ll need:

• The successful candidate shall have a four-year engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training and/or experience.
• 5 -10 years of estimating civil projects or equivalent field experience is preferred
• Be a self-starter with excellent communications skills
• Requires strong computer skills, familiarity with scheduling & estimating software, and MS Office.
