Shift Leader’s Responsibilities
General Summary of Job
The Shift Leader is responsible for the supervision of the daycare/ boarding operations and staff duty assignments. Additionally, they are responsible for assisting new Daycare Attendants to ensure proper procedures are followed. Daycare Attendants report directly to the shift leader or supervisor.
Primary Duties
1. Coordinate and plan daily operation of tasks within their assigned specialty to ensure proper and safe care of all animals in accordance with company policies and procedures. See list of specific tasks for each specialty detailed at end of this job description.
2. Oversee daily operations of facility to ensure safety and quality of care of all pets in all areas (serve as back-up to other section coordinators in their absence).
3. Assigning Duties to Team Members
a. Coordinate planning with supervisor and other shift leaders for proper work coverage on a weekly basis. Priority must be giving to daily animal care and bathing/grooming services; longer term planning is required to schedule cleaning/training duties.
b. Contact management if extra staff is needed.
c. Lead by example and assign self to all functions on a regular basis.
4. Training Daycare Attendants
a. Train new staff in accordance with the training checklist on policies/procedures within your area of specialty.
b. Provide positive feedback & performance improvement suggestions to team members and new staff make training adjustments as needed.
c. Work with management to communicate, explain and train on new procedures.
5. Monitor Staff Performance
a. Ensure that all Daycare Attendants are on task.
b. Keep records of verbal feedback given to staff related to improving their performance.
c. Assist in creating a spirit of teamwork by treating all staff equally, instructing in a respectful manner & showing appreciation for work well done & extra efforts.
6. Provide input to management on procedures. Recommend changes, additions or deletions to ensure proper care and effective operations.
7. Perform cross-trained duties as requested and as described in the respective job descriptions for:
a. Daycare Attendants
b. Bather/Brusher
c. Assistant Receptionist
8. Open or close Company facility as needed and requested by management
9. Administrative
a. Ensure Feeding and medication are administered correctly. Ensure the feeding reports, medication reports, and report cards are completed each day to the company’s standard.
10. Weekly Meetings with Management
a. Provide input on procedures, and recommend changes, additions, or deletions to ensure proper care and effective operations.
b. New employee performance reviews.
