Career Opportunity

We are currently seeking candidates for a Linux Systems Administrator position, located in our Wallops Island, VA station. Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) Wallops Island requires support for management, engineering, operation, and technical expertise for activation, operations, maintenance and engineering of equipment, systems, and computer programs in support of all Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and Program Executive Office, Integrated Warfare Systems (PEO IWS) missions and projects performed at SCSC. SCSC provides live and simulated integrated warfare capabilities in a net-centric, maritime environment to develop, test, evaluate, and conduct fleet operations and training for the warfighter.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

• Perform system and network administration on SCSC tactical Information Systems (IS).
• Troubleshoot, repair, control access, monitor performance, and conduct log analysis for all tactical IS.
• Use diagnostic hardware and software to identify problems and tune IS for optimum performance.
• Other duties as assigned.

Travel 

• This position includes a low level of travel. 

Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required 

• Three years’ experience in Linux systems administration to include working with core internet protocols and services, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), VMWare, Kerberos, scripting languages, Redhat Satellite, DNS, LDAP, DHCP, TLS/SSL, and server troubleshooting.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field/discipline; or 4 additional years of demonstrated experience as outline above can be substituted for a degree.
• Two years’ experience with network administration, to include Cisco technologies.
• Good written and oral communication.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

• Certified as a Maintenance Person in accordance with NAVEDTRA 43241-K Naval Education and Training Command Personnel Qualification Standard for 3M or the ability to become certified within a 1-year period.
• Require one of the following DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II or Level III Certifications:
• CCNA Security
• CySA
• GICSP
• GSEC
• Security CE
• CND
• SSCP
• CASP CE
• CCNP Security
• CISA
• CISSP (or Associate)
• GCED
• GCIH
• CCSP

Qualifications 

• Active DoD Secret security clearance is highly desired, however candidates who are eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance will be considered. If the selected candidate does not hold an active clearance, he/she will receive a contingent offer. A start date will be established once an interim Secret clearance is granted.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must possess a valid driver's license. 
• Must have reliable transportation to and from various work locations on base.
• Must have the availability to work varying shifts and weekends as required.

Physical Requirements 

• Ability to frequently traverse stairs. 
• Sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling. 
• Reaching, handling, using equipment, keyboards, and mobile devices. 
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
