We are currently hiring an Equipment Operator (EO) at the Fort Rucker Gunnery Range Complex at Fort Rucker, AL, where SA-TECH provides Range Operations and Maintenance (O&M) support services for live training of the Aviation Gunnery Range Complex (AGRC) for the Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker Military Installation. We also provide O&M Core Services that enable management and maintenance of training areas and ranges by integrating mission requirements with environmental requirements and sound land management practices under the Installation Management Command (IMCOM) Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security (DPTMS) Directorate. The Fort Rucker Range and Training Complex encompasses roughly 60,000 acres across the Alabama counties of Dale and Coffee.

The EO operates equipment such as cranes, clamshells, power shovels, motor graders, heavy loaders, carryalls, bulldozers, rollers, scrapers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scrapper attachments. Equipment is used to excavate, load, or move dirt, gravel, or other materials. You may need to read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans, and you may need to grease, adjust and make emergency repairs to equipment.

Basic requirements of the position include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform erosion control maintenance as directed by the Crew Chief and Supervisor.
  • Perform operator-level maintenance on dump trucks, backhoe, loader, farm tractor and other equipment as directed by the Crew Chief. 
  • Operate equipment such as backhoe, front end loader, fork lift, dozer and farm tractor (with attachments).
  • May need to read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans. 
  • May need to grease, adjust, and make emergency repairs to equipment. 
  • Perform maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings including painting, masonry, and electrical under the guidance of the Crew Chief and Grounds Maintenance Supervisor. 
  • Fuel vehicles, maintain vehicle records, drive pickup trucks to get supply parts. 
  • Assist Range Technicians by performing maintenance when required. 

Work Conditions:

  • Typical hours for this position are 0530 to 1400 Monday thru Friday, with a possibility of rotating shifts.
  • Conditions will vary as most work will be conducted outdoors with temperature variations. 
  • Work will consist of 30% standing, 30% walking, 15% climbing in/out of vehicles, 5% stooping, 10% reaching, 10% lifting. 
  • Ability to perform under rugged conditions and lift items up to 35 lbs. alone (and more than 35 lbs. with assistance). 

Requirements

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Experience working erosion control and grounds construction a plus
  • Electrical and/or vehicle maintenance experience is a plus
  • Class A CDL is required
  • A HazMat endorsement for license is preferred and would have to be obtained within six (6) months of being selected. 
  • Experience operating farm tractors of 100HP (and up), Skid Steer, Backhoe, Front Loader and Dump Trucks (10 wheel and larger) is required
  • Dozer, Excavator and Motor Grader operations experience is preferred.
  • You must be able to understand verbal or written direction and be able to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Current Alabama Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
