General Summary:

Syringa Networks, Idaho’s leading fiber optic network provider, is hiring an experienced Network Security Engineer. This position requires you to be located in Boise, ID or SLC, UT and work on-site. We do not sponsor H1B visas.

Networks is hiring an experienced Security Network Engineer. Our Network Security Engineer designs, develops, and manages the day-to-day maintenance and operation of Network Security Systems to ensure that controls are adequate and effective. This position also analyzes scenarios, provides solutions, and makes recommendations to protect the network, customers, and employees. Testing and configuration of hardware and software systems are involved. The ideal candidate will have five or more years of experience as a Network Security Engineer, excellent communication and problem solving skills.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Design, Development, and Administration of Firewalls (policy configurations, monitoring, software updates, and auditing), including DNS/DHCP
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot network hardware and equipment
  • Plan, design, and implement improvements, modifications, and replacement of network infrastructure components
  • Institute and maintain policies for asset management; including maintenance of component inventory, hardware lifecycle, software releases, and run books
  • Conduct research on products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
  • Participates in risk assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls and determine the impact of proposed changes to business processes, applications and systems
  • Develop and implement best practices and security standards for the organization
  • Conduct security research on threats and remediation techniques/ technology, make recommendations to the corresponding technical teams
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance through mentoring and coaching to share knowledge at all levels
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work in both cloud and on-premise environments
  • Ability to analyze device and traffic logs, extensive knowledge of TCP/IP protocol stack and firewall
  • Ability to react positively to high-pressure dynamic environments
  • Ability to be self-directed and a fast learner and flexible to support new technologies and legacy applications.
  • Additional network engineering skills such as routing, switching, etc are desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

Education and Experience:

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering fields, other technical field or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5 year experience working as a Security Engineer with two years’ experience in the cybersecurity sector
  • 5 years working as a Network Engineer
  • 5 years of Firewall administration displaying expert knowledge of Firewall technologies
  • Experience with load balancing technologies such as F5, NetScaler, etc.
  • Experienced in using In-depth protocol analysis tools such as Wireshark
  • Security certifications like Security , CASP, CEH, CISSP, etc. preferred
  • Previous experience with a variety of coding languages, operating systems and networks is also preferred.
