PURPOSE: 

Plans and coordinates assembly processes, tools, fixtures and equipment for designated area of responsibility within assembly. Leads special projects as assigned including equipment/structure modifications within areas of responsibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plans and/or leads engineering changes and deviations for assembly.
• Develops, evaluates and improves assembly process and process methods utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication process, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control standards.
• Creates and maintains assembly process sheets.
• Analyzes and plans space requirements and workflow and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
• Confers with finance, procurement, design staff and vendors concerning product design, process tools, fixtures and equipment to ensure efficient production methods and to arrange for purchase of equipment, materials or parts.
• Evaluates product according to specifications and quality standards.
• Estimates production times, staffing requirements and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
• Confers with management, engineering and other staff regarding assembly capabilities, production schedules and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
• Applies statistical methods to estimate future assembly requirements and potential.
• Leads any special projects and/or self-initiated projects for continuous improvement, structural planning and/or other series and new model related planning projects.
• Provides specialized technical guidance, training, process improvement activities and support to assigned process area and production associates.
• Assists with analysis on process and quality issues not solvable by production areas.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering OR the equivalent (2 years) combination of education and/or years of relevant working experience OR Associate’s degree in Engineering and the equivalent of 2 years related engineering experience.
• 1-3 years of experience in an engineering environment or participation in an engineering internship (automotive process or automotive manufacturing engineering preferred).

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Project Management skills.
• Knowledge of TS-4 (Assembly) department goals and objectives.
• Experience in assembly and functionality of vehicle systems (electrical, mechanical, modular, & diagnostic preferred).
• Problem investigation & data analysis experience.
• Long and short-term project management experience (structure projects, continuous improvement, process analysis, new model).
• Cross functional communication experience.
• Experience using Microsoft office applications.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Ability to use and apply statistical methods to aid with process analysis (risk filters, FMEAs, SPC, process/machine capability).
• Ability to use quality planning tools.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to, sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
• Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.

FLSA STATUS/WORKING SCHEDULE:

• Location: Cottondale, AL
• Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday
• Overtime: As needed
• Start Date: ASAP
