This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul and has the flexibility to telework, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent may be expected to work in the office on occasion.
As MnDOT’s Office of Transit and Active Transportation’s planning supervisor, this position is responsible for supervising staff in the development and delivery of coordinated and integrated plans, implementation of policies, program implementation and work tasks in conjunction with the Districts, regional planning partners, stakeholder, agency leadership and local units of government. This includes pedestrian and bicycle technical support, research, planning, training, outreach, safety, evaluation and education. Primary responsibilities are for development and maintenance of the Bicycle System Plan, Pedestrian System Plan, Greater Minnesota Investment Plan, the Safe Routes to School Program, Bicycle Design Manual, State Bikeways and the Safety and Education Program. This position is also the agency’s lead on pedestrian and bicycle policy development and implementation and is responsible for representing MnDOT’s approach to walking and bicycling to all internal and external partners, including the legislature as well as senior leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of professional supervisory (supervising professional employees) experience OR four years of advanced professional experience.
Experience must also demonstrate the following:
Experience with walking and bicycling planning techniques sufficient to know what data should be tracked and how it will be used.
Experience with data management systems and applications.
Experience working as a project leader, demonstrating the ability to motivate and direct the work of other staff on project and work tasks.
Experience coordinating and facilitating diverse stakeholder groups while balancing a range of perspectives and needs.
Note: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning or Public Administration substitutes for six months of advanced professional experience.
