ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Build dies and tools:

  • Manufacture and assemble dies and tools (and components) according to drawings. Check the functionality of the components and adjust them accordingly to quality requirements.
  • Manufacture of die and tool components using manual and/or CNC machining processes.
  • If necessary, organize your own work based on the progress of the individual parts (welding, grinding, drilling, CNC and manual turning, CNC and manual milling).
  • Measure and check the machined workpieces according to the test plan and blueprints (comply with the tolerance specified in the drawing).

Tool and Die Maintenance and Repair:

  • Check tools used by production (punching tools, cutting tools) for functionality and determine tool wear.
  • Determine a suitable repair or maintenance measure.
  • Initiate and conduct preventive maintenance of dies and tools
  • Repair dies and tools
  • Propose measures for die and tool improvement or optimization

General:

  • All tool & die making, maintenance and repair activities may include performance of manual and / or CNC machining processes.
  • Layout and prepare details for manual, CNC and EDM machining operations
  • Assemble dies and tools and assure readiness for production
  • Support operations with troubleshooting (may include repairs directly on the line and small modifications of tools and dies)
  • Change dies/die steels on production lines
  • Set dies and tools in the production lines and presses
  • Support the transportation and storage of the dies and tools within the company
  • Support the proper documentation activities
  • Instruct and communicate in a positive manner with operators and set-up personnel.
  • Perform 5s activities in tool room Duties.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for total Quality of products and services and authorized to stop work when a nonconformance is noted.
  • Perform assigned quality system functions as specified in QMS procedures.
  • Perform other responsibilities as determined by supervisor.
  • Observe established EHS regulations, procedures and practices.
  • Oversee and instruct Tool Room Trainees
  • Continuous detection of potentials to increase effectiveness (effectiveness) and profitability (efficiency) in your own area of activity
  • Live a culture of mistakes (“learn from mistakes”, address mistakes openly and eliminate causes)

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
  • Tool & Die Maker Journeyman preferred
  • 5 years machining experience. Demonstrated ability to set up and operate manual and CNC machines. Set up and operations of EDM machines preferred. Tool & Die training completed.

Skills

  • Able to use appropriate measurement tools (including micrometers, calipers, pin gages, dial indicators, scales, comparator and other hand tools)
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading
  • Mathematical skills (fractions, decimals, conversions)
  • Knowledge of G-code programs - able to read and understand existing programs
  • Ability to operate and set up manual mills, grinder, drill press, manual lathe, CNC mill, CNC lathe, EDM wire machine
  • Die set up
  • CAD skills
  • Understanding of GD&T principles
  • Mechanical problem solving
  • Use of sketches to illustrate engineering changes
  • Knowledge of heat treating
  • Use of blank holding pressures and standoffs
  • Knowledge of sensors and their functions
  • Metric measurement and conversions
  • Cutting tool technology and theory

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, coolant or airborne particles and is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.

Physical Demands

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
