SunOpta is Hiring a Senior Accountant Near Eden Prairie, MN

Job Summary: The Senior Accountant will be a key business contact supporting day-to-day finance activities along with the month-end financial close and reporting process, variance analysis, internal and external audit support, project assistance and other finance department support. This position is accountable for the consistency, efficiency, and reliability of processes across business segments to ensure the quality of accounting records and information as well as ensuring compliance to policies and controls. A successful Senior Accountant is committed to excellence and ethics, focused on business success, has a working style that is involved and invitational, and works with a sense of urgency. The tools used include Microsoft Dynamics (DAX), Oracle, Hyperion and QlikView. Essential Functions of the Job:Execute & lead Microsoft Dynamics month-end procedures to open and close various modules and fiscal periods. Prepare financial records, including but not limited to the month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing processes, preparation of variety of journal entries, performance of account reconciliations and analyses, report writing, and limited budgeting. Provide financial support & structure to SunOpta’s Fruit-based business, grower activities, and other business segments. Account for Fruit business inbound & outbound freight liabilities & related expense. Ensure the control environment and finance processes are compliant with Sarbanes-Oxley, internal controls, and all other aspects of regulatory reporting. Support internal & external audit requests. In cooperation with business leaders and accounting team members, facilitate a wide variety of special projects and training with an emphasis on streamlining processes and timely reporting of financial information. Partner with business leaders to prepare annual budgets, capital expenditure plans and track budget variances. Use excellent problem-solving skills to research, find the root cause and recommend solutions for various accounting and processing issues that arise. Recommend best practices and develop supporting standard operating procedures. Makes recommendations regarding the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures. Support special requests for reporting and gathering data. Continued self-development to increase expertise in the tools used by the team. Other duties, as assigned.Supervisory Responsibilities: None.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent education and experience.Minimum 3 years of relevant accounting/finance experience. Intermediate level or higher MS Office user (Excel/Word). Preferred Qualifications:CPA designation. Previous accounting/finance experience within a manufacturing or agriculture-based company. Microsoft Dynamics (& Oracle) experience. Proven ability and desire to take ownership of tasks and enhance processes. Ability to break work down into process steps; develop schedules and works well within time constraints. Ability to develop effective cross-functional relationships. Additional Considerations: Travel Expectation: Up to 10%.
