Design Engineering Manager

Position Summary: This position will be responsible for managing the activities of the Design Engineering function supporting project initiatives and production operations. This includes the monitoring of budgeting, management and support of department Engineers and direct management and involvement in larger scale, high impact initiatives.

Reports to: Plant Engineering Manager

Essential Functions/Duties:  

• Manage, track and analyze engineering design process. Research and implement innovative designs.
• Manage multi-disciplinary engineering design services, equipment selection and research, provide administrative services, program coordination, in support of plant engineering activities.
• Manage equipment and facilities engineering drawing files, including developing an optimal file system both electronically and within the engineering file room.
• Manage design process, cost estimates, and resources to ensure proper development of new designs.
• Manage engineering standards, mechanical and electrical. Interact with SRI Headquarters Engineering department to assure adherence to corporate standards.
• Manage contractor management process for design support and periodically audit contractor’s work to ensure that safe work practices and standard operating procedures are followed.
• Continuously drive solutions that reduce costs including labor, parts, contractors and operating items.
• Manage resources to Ensure safety, environmental and other regulatory compliances by working with appropriate associates on EHS issues, following the implementation of mandatory safety releases, and continually improving the communication across all relevant departments.
• Manage, track and analyze design engineering expense and capital budgeting to ensure compliance.
• Manage resources to ensure the proper design, and maintainability of new and existing plant equipment, buildings and facilities.
• Updates management through regular and concise status reports and maintains a satisfactory and easily retrievable filing system.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• BS in Mechanical, Electrical, other Engineering discipline MS/MBA Preferred.
• Minimum of five years of design Engineering experience in an industrial environment.
• Requires the ability to lead cross-functional work groups to achieve Operations Center and Facility equipment operational goals and timeline.
• Equipment design experience, along with project engineering or project management role is required.
• Ability to understand plant layouts, capital estimating, associate-man computations, tire manufacturing equipment processes.
• Union experience preferred.
• Ability to utilize machine design software (AutoCAD, Solid Works) a plus.
• Experience with heavy machinery systems is highly sought.
• Experience with SAP preferred.
• Requires strong communication, analytical and planning skills.
• Excellent verbal & written interpersonal communication skills.
• Solid PC skills utilizing Microsoft excel & word.
