Sumitomo Electric Group is Hiring a Helpdesk Supervisor Near Torrance, CA

Sumitomo Electric U.S.A. Holdings, Inc. (SEUHO), a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is looking for a Helpdesk Supervisor in our Mt. Prospect, IL. This person is responsible for managing and increasing the performance of the SEUHO-IS helpdesk, as well as coordinating between the helpdesk and other staff members on projects and activities for SEI group companies in the Americas. This person will report into the IS Manager. A big plus if this person can communicate in Japanese.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise helpdesk
    • Train, develop and advise the helpdesk team
    • Build good relationships and communication with the team and other stakeholders
    • Delegate responsibility to team members and support them to set priorities, goals and deadlines
    • Have a good understanding of team activities and evaluate the effectiveness of those activities
    • Use their understanding of the team activities and performance to improve current processes
    • Evaluate team members’ performance, give feedback to improve the team
    • Create a results-driven culture within the team
  • Manage IT projects
    • Coordinate with helpdesk staff members and other staff to identify and define project requirements, scope and objectives
    • Work with helpdesk staff to create and maintain comprehensive project proposals, schedules, documentation and reports
    • Monitor and track project progress, and handle risks and issues to the project
    • Report project status, risks and issues to stakeholders in timely manner, and work with stakeholders to reduce risk and resolve issues to the project
  • Plan and implement processes and procedures
    • Understand organization goals, strategies and projects and use these goals to create improved policies and procedures
    • Implement organizational and/or process improvements, then evaluate the outcome of those changes
    • Improve service level and quality by establishing and enforcing organization standards
  • Coordinate with SEI and SEI Group companies to implement new IT strategies
    • Communicate and build good relationships with staff at different group companies and SEUHO-IS
    • Understand goals and metrics for new IT services / strategies and use available resources to meet them
    • Measure whether services / strategies are meeting goals and metrics and make changes to these services / strategies as necessary
    • Create necessary documents in order to implement and meet business requirements from group companies and business partners

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in computer science or a related field and 7-10 years of related experience
  • Fluency in communication skills in English and Japanese (business level in speaking and writing) preferred
  • 3-5 years managing a team of 5 people
  • 7 years of experience with Windows client and server operating systems running in an Active Directory environment
  • 2-3 years of experience with the Linux operating system and the ability to troubleshoot issues on major Linux distributions, including Red Hat / CentOS and SuSE Enterprise Linux
  • Experience administering a database program such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, IBM DB2, Oracle Database or PostgreSQL
  • 5 years of experience with server virtualization in VMware and/or Hyper-V, as well as IaaS providers, including AWS and Azure
  • 4-5 years of experience designing and managing both LAN and WAN networks
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from users and business partners
  • Organizational and time management skills sufficient to independently establish priorities and coordinate and complete competing projects within set timeframes
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Raise issues proactively and in a timely manner
  • Work well independently as well as part of a team
  • Must have excellent leadership skills with demonstrated abilities to resolve diverse problems
  • Must understand the importance of structure, organization, resource management and to complete critical tasks in a timely manner
  • Must have ability to apply knowledge and common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Must have ability to deal with problems involving several variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Must has an aggressive drive to achieve goals and be proactive in working towards those goals
