SUMMARY 

The Family Support Specialist assists with integrating family services to support participants in all programs at STRIVE. This position provides support by helping families to resolve issues to improve their ability to obtain gainful employment and begin or enhance their ability to provide financial or material support to their children.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Work closely with parents to help strengthen family relationships.
  • Assists with recruiting and managing family-focused programming, events and workshops.
  • Acts as a liaison and creates relationships with outside agencies.
  • Represents the program in the community and forms partnerships with new community based programs. 
  • Supports and observes participants in the program, documenting their progress and providing ongoing feedback in order to reach identified goals.
  • Develops individualized plans addressing needs and provides resources.
  • Develops consistent and stable relationships with families to provide support to families who are experiencing long- or short-term difficulties. 
  • Connects participants with local service providers, community organizations, and government agencies to assist parents and their children.
  • Provides workshops to families according to needs. 
  • Assists in developing the Parent Council and other parent support groups.
  • Maintains case notes, files and client data bases.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS

· High School Diploma or GED required, BSW or bachelors in related field preferred. 

· At least 2 years of counseling experience, and exceptional communication skills required.

· Overall knowledge of basic individual and group counseling skills a plus. 

· Must have a working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software. 

· Bilingual (English/Spanish) is helpful.
