Stratolaunch is Hiring a Manufacturing Engineer II Near Mojave, CA

POSITION SUMMARY

Stratolaunch is a technology accelerator that engineers operationally realistic testing at Mach 5 . Our air-launched, Talon testbeds are reusable, cost-effective platforms that enable routine access to the hypersonic environment. We deliver flight data critical to validating system performance and achieving rapid technology deployment. Together with our customers, we drive innovations that are imperative to advancing national security.

To help achieve these efforts, Stratolaunch is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer II to contribute to the fabrication and assembly of Talon-A hypersonic vehicles. The individual operating in this capacity will contribute to all aspects of airframe manufacturing, to include: designing fixtures and jigs for vehicle assembly, generating work instructions for the shop, 3D CAD modeling, designing manufacturing shop aids, generating laser projection files, laser metrology, operating a CNC ply cutter, etc.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to an integrated, cross-discipline team by assisting with the manufacture of high-temperature, composite airframes
  • Design high-temperature tooling for composite part fabrication
  • Design tools, fixtures, and jigs to support the assembly of composite and metallic structures
  • Perform laser metrology to assist with part fabrication and vehicle assembly
  • Generate work instructions, drawings, laser projection files, and templates for the shop using 3D CAD software
  • Work with vendors to procure equipment, tooling, and fixtures
  • Design manufacturing shop aids to improve manufacturing efficiency
  • Ensure the structure meets all engineering requirements
  • Support the root-cause analysis of manufacturing nonconformances, and the engineering disposition of those nonconformances
  • Provides technical guidance to help resolve non-conformances, corrective actions, and rework
  • Provides technical guidance to manufacturing operations
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement activities
  • Evaluate risks and risk mitigation plans to determine if the risks are appropriate and risk mitigations are adequate
  • Regular and comprehensive communication to the Talon-A Structures Lead on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Travel, as needed, to support the department
  • Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity, and fulfillment of commitments

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of pre-preg composite part fabrication and the manufacture of bonded and bolted composite assemblies
  • Knowledge of, and/or experience with: design of assembly fixtures and jigs, laser metrology, composite part fabrication tooling methods, GD&T, design of drill jigs
  • Experience designing and producing manufacturing documentation
  • 3D CAD modeling experience
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vendor management experience
  • Lean manufacturing experience

Required Computer Skills

  • Computer Aided Design tools
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)

Preferred Computer Skills

  • Computer Aided Design tools – CATIA V5 or SOLIDWORKS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 2-plus years of relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience

Special remarks regarding work environment, if applicable

  • Position is based in Mojave, CA
  • Position requires significant interaction on the shop floor with the Manufacturing, Materials and Processes, and Quality Assurance teams
  • Travel expectations are minimal (<5%), for visiting manufacturing vendors

Mojave Air & Spaceport is located 95 miles north of Los Angeles. Beer fanatics will find some of the best West Coast IPAs at Bravery and Lucky Luke’s in Lancaster. Any food option you crave is covered, and we always recommend the authentic and fresh Mexican food that you won’t find anywhere else in the United States.
