POSITION SUMMARY:
The Teller position performs a variety of deposit transactions and other banking customer services, following established policies and procedures, with the highest degree of accuracy, courtesy, professionalism and satisfaction. This role looks for opportunities to explain and suggest other products and services to customers.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Greets customers in a prompt, professional and friendly manner and supports a positive, welcoming and customer-focused environment.
  • Follows all relevant security procedures.
  • Assists customers in preparing necessary documents to complete transactions as needed.
  • Examines and verifies negotiable instruments such as checks for customer identity, amount and endorsements, following established policies.
  • Accepts and processes deposits and withdrawals to customer accounts using software and scanners, and issues appropriate receipts to customers.
  • Counts cash and coin manually as needed to complete transactions. May verify currency and coin count using electronic counting devices.
  • Cashes checks within authorized limits and disburses currency upon verification of signatures and fund availability.
  • Receives customer loan and credit payments, property tax payments and safe deposit box rental payments, issuing appropriate receipts.
  • Prepares cashier checks and money orders, sells gift cards, travel cards and license plate stickers, and performs other deposit activities as authorized and assigned.
  • Balances cash drawer at designated times daily.
  • Assists with determining causes for and correcting unbalanced drawer offages.
  • Assists with daily balancing of ATM as assigned.
  • Actively suggests products and services to customers by identifying potential needs and explaining solutions available from the bank.
  • Accepts check orders, address changes and other customer requests and forwards information to the appropriate department for processing.
  • Documents and reports any customer problems or complaints for the daily quality control report.
  • Respects and maintains customer privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintains current knowledge on all products, services, policies, procedures and other general information affecting the teller operation.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with current bank policies and procedures, including security procedures and practices.
  • Supports the work activities in other departments as requested, as well as the overall objectives of the bank.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or appropriate.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Positive, friendly and welcoming demeanor with excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient computer and standard equipment operation skills.
  • Previous cash handling and retail experience helpful.
  • Ability to recognize issues of significance and prioritize work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Typical office environment. Significant standing and walking required. Some lifting up to 50 pounds required for coin bags. Hand and finger dexterity needed due to significant use of hands for cash and coin handling tasks. Requires ability to operate numerous types of office equipment such as phones, computers, printers, scanners, fax machines, copiers and calculators. Occasional lifting, carrying bending, kneeling, stretching and stooping required. Requires the ability to spend significant time reading paper documents and computer screens.
