Job Description This position is for Stevens students currently enrolled. Must be an undergraduate second-, third- or fourth-year student at the September start date. First-year students who have completed at least one semester may apply if an off-cycle opportunity becomes available. This is a part-time hourly position. Undergraduate Student Ambassador Undergraduate student ambassadors are an honorary group of selected students that represent Stevens Institute of Technology and the student experience. They help make meaningful connections with prospective students as well as offer support, encouragement, first-hand experiences and advice to students, their families and supporters during the college decision-making process. Ambassadors will possess qualities of leadership, maturity and professionalism and have strong communication and customer service skills. This role should be committed to helping build a welcoming community for all Stevens students and guests. The position begins in September of each academic year. Once in the role, you are eligible for rehire without reapplication so long as your performance is consistently strong. Notwithstanding that, to retain employment you must remain in good standing at Stevens as defined by the Undergraduate Academics Policies and Procedures. Responsibilities: • Represent Stevens and Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the student experience by demonstrating professionalism and strong communication skills. • Be knowledgeable of Stevens Institute of Technology: all that it offers, its intricacies, and its resources. • Speak at daily/weekly information sessions providing student insights alongside staff as part of the campus visit program. • Work and support important campus visit events including: Fall Visit Days (October 7 and 28; additional dates based on major), Early Decision/Early Action events (February 24/25, 2024), Admitted Student Weekend (April 13 and 14, 2024), Admitted Student Fridays (various Fridays during the spring), and more. These events occasionally require both evening and weekend work. • Actively contribute to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions social media efforts • Assist the admission staff with events and projects of importance based on your personal interests and professional development goals. • Represent Stevens at off-campus events as needed, such as visiting your high school alma mater. • Assist the admission staff with calling campaigns to admitted students. • Occasionally staff the front desk/reception area to check in families for events, answer phones, and respond to inquiries from visiting families and community members. • Maintain and answer student ambassador email address which would be supervised by the campus experience coordinator. • Participate in student panel discussions and webinars around the admissions process. • Help train and mentor new ambassadors and tour guides. • With the assistance of the Campus Experience Coordinator, create an online ambassador profile and ensure it is up to date with new projects and/or initiatives. • Assist admission staff with conducting first-year admission interviews with prospective students both in person and virtually. Desired Skills/Qualifications/Commitment: • Must be an undergraduate second-, third- or fourth-year student at the September start date. First-year students who have completed at least one semester may apply if an off-cycle opportunity becomes available. • Must have served as a tour guide for at least one semester and/or have had significant involvement and contributions to the Stevens community. • Strong public speaking skills, maturity, discretion and strong listening and communication skills. • A genuine interest in promoting Stevens Institute of Technology to prospective students. • Comfort presenting to groups ranging in size from small to very large crowds. • Maintain diverse involvement across a variety of campus groups and activities. • Demonstrate an interest in the undergraduate admission process. • Flexibility and the ability to mix candor with diplomacy, warmth with assertiveness, and humor with sensitivity. • Desire to lean into difficult conversations and solve problems. • Be committed to work 10-15 hours per week (with a maximum of 20 hours, if needed) between both in-person and virtual hours.
