Stevens Institute of Technology is Hiring a Junior Accountant Near Hoboken, NJ

Job Description This position offers a well-qualified individual the opportunity to perform in a critical role within the Systems Engineering Research Center (SERC) and Acquisition Innovation Research Center (AIRC) at Stevens Institute of Technology. The Junior Accountant will support the SERC/AIRC Finance Manager, as well as researchers and other staff in all accounting-related functions and administrative matters. The successful candidate must possess: a high level of initiative, organization and intellectual curiosity with a results-oriented perspective; superb time management skills; excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; the ability to coordinate a large number of complex tasks and reprioritize as needed; the ability to anticipate obstacles and pro-actively and creatively problem-solve; and flexibility in dealing with a range of working styles and competing demands. The ideal candidate will be someone who appreciates that technology is continually changing how enterprises develop and organize the systems that drive creative solutions, innovation and efficiency. Responsibilities Provide support in administrative matters including travel reservations, conference planning, virtual/online meeting planning, and maintenance of established administrative and financial processes. Manage and/or assist with routine financial tasks such as: G/L reconciliation of SERC/AIRC accounts; summary of cost analysis for Bi-monthly Status Report, as well as other sponsor required reports; ACRN Review relevant to billing and reporting; payable and receivable deposits; and P-Card reconciliation. Prepare monthly financial reports for and reconcile expenses on all active research tasks operating on government contracts. Assist in preparation of ‘Manpower report’; compile, analyze, and report financial data; and manage SERC/AIRC RT analysis. Participate in: Costing Allocation Process, including but not limited to: working with each SERC/AIRC-related individual to create their costing allocation for academic and summer months or month-to-month. SERC subcontract management including: creating and tracking subcontract POs and associated financial oversight; conducting subcontractor risk assessment in concert with OSP; initiating and maintaining Quality Control (QC) processes established to manage subcontractor billing, etc. Assist other SIT functions such as Internal Audit, Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), Office of Sponsored Accounting (OSA), Human Resources (HR), A/P, Procurement, and the Budget Office. Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business management required; advanced degree in accounting, business or project management is an advantage. Prior experience in a university central or departmental business office is a plus. Working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite, including significant proficiency in Excel, and proficiency in Workday and KFS. Additional training in or knowledge of research administration and experience with government contracts are both advantageous qualifications.
