JOB TITLE:

Clinical Staff

SUPERVISOR:

Clinic Manager

Sterling Medical is looking for the clinical staff member who will be able to effectively communicate and demonstrate Sterling Medical's vision for their patients, members and investors. This vision consists of a concierge approach of bringing the patient and the provider closer together and eliminating the frustrations that occur frequently within healthcare organizations. The clinical staff member has a crucial role to help facilitate the patient experience into one where they are taken care of in a professional manner and their cares and concerns have been addressed.

JOB OVERVIEW:

Sterling Medical uses strong multitasking clinical staff who are capable of delivering quality care to a multitude of patients with diverse conditions and illnesses. The clinical staff provides direct and indirect professional patient care in the urgent care setting that reflects initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional practice under the supervision of the onsite provider.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Sterling Medical's clinical staff provides direct and indirect patient care in the clinic setting.

  2. He/she communicates with providers/nurse manager/co-workers as appropriate, about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic evaluation and changes in patient condition or symptomatology.

  3. The clinical staff member will be able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment, and avail his or herself of all training, skills and ability commonly developed through attainment of licensure in their field.

  4. The clinical staff member may also have inventory/ordering responsibilities in addition to clinical responsibilities, and will be expected to cross train in additional areas of clinic responsibilities including laboratory rapid assays, reception and radiographic studies.

  5. Work under direct supervision of MD, PA-C or NP to provide excellent patient care to all clients that come to Urgent Care.

  6. Is able to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and performs reassessments as per policy. This includes: pediatric, geriatric, the general patient population, and medical screening exams.

  7. Adequately assessed and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.

  8. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.

  9. Revises plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment.

  10. Performs waived testing (point-of-care testing) per clinical laboratory in a timely manner.

  11. Performs all quality control testing for lab equipment. Maintains records according to CLIA regulations.

  12. Is able to interpret results of waived tests accurately, taking appropriate action on waived tests results.

  13. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patients age.

  14. Is knowledgeable of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.

  15. Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.

  16. Instructs and educates patient and family members regarding diagnosis, treatment plan, and signs and symptoms of any adverse reaction to treatment plan.

  17. Capably assists providers with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills to include but is not limited to lacerations, joint injections, I&D, Mole removals and other procedures.

  18. Is able to perform treatments and provide services to the level of licensure. Treatments and procedures include but is not limited to phlebotomy, EKG's, Spirometry, X-rays, medication dispensing and education, IV insertion and maintenance, injections, audiometry, ear irrigation, drug screens.

  19. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.

  20. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.

  21. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served. Able to interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.

  22. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

  23. Consults other departments as appropriate for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.

  24. Communicates appropriately and clearly to clinic manager, co-workers and physicians.

  25. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.

  26. Acts as a resource for other less experienced nursing staff to include additional staff educational duties as assigned.

  27. Completes assigned supervisory duties as directed.

  28. Documentation meets current standards and policies.

  29. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.

  30. Per state regulations, must obtain radiology certification within 90 days of hire.

  31. Perform all occupational medicine tasks per policy to include specimen collections, reporting through national platforms and following employer requests.

  32. Follow policy and procedures with supply management. Maintains examination rooms for necessary supplies and equipment.

  33. Accurate and efficiently documents patient encounters within the medical record.

  34. Respond to and/or refers patient phone calls. All calls and requests from patients are answered and processed by the end of the shift.

  35. Ensures cleanliness in the worker area. Keeping neat and orderly.

MINOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Is flexible, organized and functions under stressful situations.

  2. Completes annual education requirements.

  3. Maintains regulatory requirements.

  4. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.

  5. Wears identification while on duty, uses the computerized punch time system correctly.

  6. Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion.

  7. Attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled.

  8. Attends at least 75% of staff meetings annually.

  9. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

  10. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

  11. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.

  12. Flexible in scheduling, work weekends and holidays and work overtime when needed.

  13. Maintain flexibility in a growing environment and be willing to grow, change and accept new duties as the scope of urgent care changes with the needs of the community.

  14. Performs other job duties that may be assigned from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

EDUCATION:

a) At least one year within a clinical setting.

b) Radiology certification preferred.

c) Phlebotomy/IV certification preferred.

d) BLS certification

e) Computer literate.

OTHER:

a) Solid written and verbal communication skills.

b) Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise

c) Excellent organizational skills.

d) Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.

e) Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in written.

f) Excellent customer service skills.

g) Additional languages preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Mobility: Clinical staff should be able to move quickly and easily within the urgent care facility to assist patients and healthcare providers.

  2. Standing: They may need to stand for extended periods while performing tasks like taking patient histories, preparing exam rooms, or assisting with procedures.

  3. Lifting: The ability to lift and move patients or heavy medical equipment, such as wheelchairs or stretchers, may be necessary.

  4. Manual dexterity: Clinical staff should have good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills for tasks like drawing blood, administering injections, and using medical instruments.

  5. Ergonomics: The need to bend down to assist patients or retrieve items from lower shelves may be necessary.

  6. Vision: Good vision is essential for reading patient charts, labels on medications, and monitoring patient vital signs.

  7. Hearing: Adequate hearing is important for listening to patients, healthcare providers, and alarms or alerts in the clinical setting.

  8. Communication: Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are crucial for interacting with patients and colleagues.

  9. Infection control: Clinical staff should be able to follow infection control protocols, which may involve wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves, masks, and gowns.

  10. Physical endurance: Urgent care can be fast-paced, so clinical staff should have the stamina to work long shifts and handle the physical demands of the job.

    a)The clinical staff member is able to manage the stress of sad situations, but also draws on strength from the wonderful outcomes that can and do happen.

b) In addition, the clinical staff member has empathy for the pain and suffering of patients. They are able to feel compassionate and provide comfort.

  1. Flexibility is key in order to handle the work hours that are required in a healthcare setting. Paying close attention to detail is important to help prevent errors.

    a)Working in an environment with a variety of situations and different people requires keen interpersonal skills.

b) Physical endurance is important as a clinical staff member may spend long hours on their feet and performing a number of taxing maneuvers on a daily basis.
