The Steppingstone Foundation is Hiring a Community Coordinator Near Boston, MA

Description

Position Title: Community Coordinator

Reports To: Middle School Success Advisor & Middle School Success Director

Organization Overview:

The Steppingstone Foundation (TSF) prepares students from marginalized communities to access, navigate, and graduate from college through two initiatives, the Steppingstone Scholars Program and the National Partnership for Educational Access (NPEA). The Steppingstone Scholars Program is a direct-service program in Boston that provides academic, social-emotional, and college-readiness services to students, called Scholars, beginning as early as fifth grade and continuing all the way through college graduation. The Steppingstone Scholars Program consists of five components: Admissions, the Academy, Middle School Success, High School Success, and College Success. NPEA connects the people, practices, and innovations for eliminating barriers to educational access, and college and career success for underserved students.

Position Summary:

The Community Coordinator will have the primary responsibility of recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers who serve as tutors, mentors, and activity leads/facilitators during Middle School Success programming on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Community Coordinator is a member of the Middle School Success team, and also contributes regularly to helping students develop the skills to successfully navigate middle school, supports their transition to high school, and empowers them to identify and connect their interests to decisions about college and beyond. Secondary responsibilities may include supporting Steppingstone program staff in other departments such as translation, data input, and communication.

This is a part-time, seasonal position during the academic year from September through the end of May. The position is 18 hours per week. Saturday hours are required from 8:00am – 3:00pm in-person. Wednesday hours are required from 4:15pm-6:30pm remotely. Remaining hours during the week are flexible.

Start Date: Fall 2022

Salary: $16/hour

Responsibilities: 

  • Facilitate the recruitment process as needed. This could include general outreach, and/or attending volunteer fairs.
  • Screen and interview prospective volunteers, and host orientations.
  • Collaborate with a team of Advisors to help match Scholars with volunteers for the Saturday tutoring/study hall
  • Manage and facilitate study hall sessions to set up Scholars with tutoring and other programming
  • Serve as the liaison between Steppingstone staff and volunteers by communicating regularly with volunteers and maintaining the volunteer database.
  • Conduct mid-year and end-of-year volunteer debrief. 
  • Support the Middle School Success team by assisting with site operations such as attendance tracking, phone calls to families, supervision, etc.

  • Demonstrated commitment to educational and racial equity in college access and success
  • Cross cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Strong time management combined with initiative and flexibility 
  • Proficiency with Zoom and Google Drive preferred
  • Experience as an effective team member in a collaborative environment

Physical Demands:

Lifting up to 20 pounds, standing, walking, sitting, reaching, operating computer and office equipment

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement:

As a condition of employment, all Steppingstone employees, including full-time, part-time, temporary and contract employees, and interns, must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. To be considered fully vaccinated, individuals must have received two doses of the approved Pfizer/Moderna COVID-19 vaccine or single dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, and remain up to date with all boosters recommended by the CDC prior to the finalization of the hiring process. Finalists will be given details about how to demonstrate receipt of vaccination.
