Stepping Stones Museum for Children is Hiring a Kitchen Staff Near Norwalk, CT

Description

 Position Overview:
The part-time Café Kitchen Staff for the Stepping Stones Museum for Children Café supports the food preparation process in a nutritionally focused café. Responsible for organizing the daily food production and visual presentation and for all aspects of the kitchen operation including sanitation and proper storage. Demonstrates a commitment and positive attitude regarding all responsibilities. Understands the goals of Healthy Children Healthy Community and ensures the goal to provide healthy, fun and sustainable dining options is a daily focus and commitment. Dedicated to consistently providing quality food and welcoming hospitality.

Position Responsibilities:

Visitor Experience

  • Delivers exceptional customer service and maintains a warm, friendly and professional demeanor at all times. Approaches all encounters with guests and staff in an attentive, courteous and service-oriented manner.
  • Practices safe work habits at all times to avoid possible injury to self or other staff.
  • Operates cash register accurately when needed.
  • Demonstrates respect for all visitors, volunteers and staff.
  • Actively seeks opportunities to learn about the museum and Healthyville initiatives as well as engaging in professional development that supports lifelong learning.

Dependability and Accountability

  • Handles the daily setup, breakdown and cleaning of café and food service areas.
  • Consistently follows the strictest standard of cleanliness within all areas affecting the preparation, serving, storage and rotation of food.
  • Completes food preparation efficiently and with care.
  • Maintains proper cleaning and care of all kitchen equipment and utensils as required.
  • Receives and unloads all incoming food and non-food deliveries. Stocks all food service areas with inventory.
  • Maintains high standards of personal appearance and grooming including wearing the assigned name tag and uniform.
  • Removes trash and recyclables as necessary.
  • Consistently arrive at work location on time and ready to work.
  • Flexibility of work hours preferred and may be required to work additional hours as needed

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Handles all duties assigned ; keeps management informed of shortage of equipment and supplies.
  • Works effectively with all café staff and commits to the highest standards of customer service.
  • Demonstrates flexibility when customer needs arise and when help is requested by team members.
  • Assists with facility rentals as needed and Stepping Stones day or evening events.
  • Attends meetings and trainings when requested 

Stewardship and Customer Focus

  • Acts as an Ambassador and actively shares information within area communities to raise awareness of the museum and to drive visitation.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and competency when working scheduled programs and/or events during and outside core business hours.

Requirements

Minimum Experience/Skills/Certificates:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; experience in a deli or cafeteria preferred
  • ServSafe Manager or ServSafe Certified preferred.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to stand during shift
  • Must demonstrate professional maturity
  • Must have proven track record of dependability and punctuality
  • Effective communication skills, conversationally bilingual a plus
  • Proven ability to recommend and implement process improvements and new initiatives
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Sensitive to diversity including individuals with physical challenges or special needs
