Part-time position

Job Summary Overview

The Excel Data Specialist fulfills a necessary role within our independent insurance agency. The main responsibility for this position is to create spreadsheets for presentation to our groups. This includes obtaining quotes from the carrier website, formatting spreadsheets to the specific product/client, entering the data from the quotes onto the spreadsheet and making sure all the Excel formulas are correct. Other responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to: Processing applications, making changes to, reinstatement of, and cancellation of insurance policies. The ideal candidate would be someone who has a great understanding of Excel and the Microsoft suite of products, is methodical, routine driven, detail oriented, and computer savvy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Input data from renewals and quotes into existing spreadsheets and ensuring correct formula usage
  • Creating spreadsheets from scratch, to the point where they are ready to be presented in front of the client
  • Process, prepare, submit, and record employee forms for coverage with insurance carriers
  • Correspond with clients and agents to obtain information and inform them of status updates
  • Review and verify data, such as age, name, address, etc. for each application
  • Review employee insurance benefit forms to ensure that:
  • all necessary information is available to process
  • the effective date is correct
  • there is a qualifying event if outside of the new hire waiting period/open enrollment
  • the appropriate form has been used
  • Modify, update, and process forms on existing policies

  • Processing information in an accurate and efficient manner (attention to detail is a MUST)
  • Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to evaluate solutions
  • Evaluating information to determine compliance with industry standards

Qualifications

  • High school diploma is required. Higher education is preferred, but not required
  • 3 years of data entry experience or current college student
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry is a plus
