Description

Position Summary: Responsible for the total nursing needs of residents and supervises nursing staff to deliver the highest quality of care in accordance with the standards, policies and practices of the department.

Essential Functions

  • Performs skilled nursing services to fulfill Care Plan directives and physician orders to ensure quality care and treatments to residents.
  • Responsible for managing and overseeing nursing services and quality of care for residents.
  • Sees to the implementation of Care Plans and physicians’ orders and fulfillment of all required treatments for residents.
  • Monitors the work of CNAs, CMTs, RAs and NAs and assists where needed.
  • Observes the performance of nursing staff during shift; resolves employee issues; reports employee issues to the DON.
  • Takes call on a rotating basis as scheduled by the DON.
  • Performs all required duties to ensure proper admission and discharge.
  • Documents and reports any noticed or reported changes in or concerns about resident conditions to the DON.
  • Appropriately charts all nursing care per facility policies and procedures.
  • Has resident information available for primary care provider during visits and informs provider of all resident changes or needs.
  • Performs rounds with attending physician as directed by the DON.
  • Makes work assignments and ensures shift coverage is adequate to deliver necessary level of care.
  • Effectively delegates work duties to department staff.
  • Receives shift report prior to providing care and communicates resident care needs to CMTs and CNAs; provides shift report to oncoming charge nurse.
  • Directs, instructs and supervises department staff in nursing best practices, infection control and care quality.
  • Participates in new employee orientation and on-the-job training as directed by the DON.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, local and company health, safety, and sanitation laws, regulations and standards, including Standard Precautions and Infection Control Guidelines.
  • Supervises the medication program including orderly medication storage, accuracy of medication/narcotics inventory, proper dispensing and destruction, and timely chart documentation.
  • Notifies the Medical Records and Supply Clerk and Environmental Services staff regarding observed equipment and physical plant issues.
  • Protects the confidential nature of resident information and adheres to resident rights.
  • Follows all company policies and procedures.
  • Communicates with and maintains positive interactions with residents, family members, caregivers, physicians, and others as needed.
  • Assists staff and residents with mealtime activities.
  • Responds to emergency situations and determines the need for emergency services, physician and/or family members.
  • Works extra hours when necessary and performs duties of other positions as needed.
  • Prepares reports and summaries as required by DON
  • Reports supply or inventory needs to the Medical Records and Supply Clerk.
  • Attends all required training and meetings.
  • Attends all in-services as directed
  • Complies with the company’s employee safety prevention and accident reporting program.
  • Participates in conducting fire drills and other safety drills.
  • Timely response and follow through on all communications.
  • Cooperates and problem-solves with other departments and staff, residents, vendors, and others to support overall team and corporate goals.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of nursing best practices.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Must hold a current IV-certified License Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse license provided by the Missouri State Board of Nursing,
  • Dedicated interest in assisting a senior population.
  • Currently CPR certified.
  • Ability to lead and manage nursing staff.
  • Experience in implementing individualized care plans.
  • Understanding of standard assessment tools used in evaluating resident status.
  • Understanding of human resources function, the value of diversity in the workforce, and compliance with laws surrounding the employer-employee relationship.
  • Reads, writes, speaks, and understands the English language.
  • Able and willing to take direction from management.
  • Empathic communication skills including focused listening and providing feedback.
  • Patience and acceptance of constant change in work environment.
  • Self-directed organizational skills that enhance the ability to manage numerous priorities.
  • Proficiency with software programs including Microsoft Office Suite and data-driven applications.
  • Proven success in participating within a team structure.
  • History of ethical conduct.
  • Patience and acceptance of constant change in own work environment. ? Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.

Preferred Education or Experience

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing and completion of National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Certified Geriatric Nurse.
  • Nursing experience working in a healthcare facility offering skilled care, rehabilitation services, assisted living and/or residential care.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. They include:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, use hands to finger, feel, handle controls, talk, walk, hear, reach out and up with hands and arms, stoop and kneel.
  • May stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • Requires physical contact with residents, some of whom may become physically combative.
  • Must be able to assist in lifting, moving and maneuvering patients from place to place.
  • Must be able to easily lift, carry, and otherwise move at least 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to tolerate changing temperatures when moving inside and outside the facility.

Work Environment

The work environment is a professional healthcare environment. Employees could be exposed to:

  • Noise levels range from moderate to loud.
  • Contagious or infectious diseases.
  • Dermatitis from frequent hand-washing.
  • Needle stick injury.
  • Bio-hazardous waste.
  • Chemicals used for cleaning and sanitizing; fumes and odors.
  • While performing administrative duties, the work environment includes standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
