Southern State Correctional Facility has immediate openings for Correctional Officers. Correctional Officers with the Vermont Department of Corrections work in a system that believes in the basics of human change. BASE PAY STARTS AT $20.00/HR. With differentials, earn up to $25.00-$28.50/HR
($3.00 Facility $2.00-$2.50 Shift Differential $1.50 Weekend and $1.50 in other potential differentials per hour).
Overtime hourly rate $35.00 - $42.00/HR paid after 8 hours in a day.
$2750.00 Recruitment/Retention bonus for all individuals hired from July 3rd, 2022 to July 1st, 2023.

Correctional Officer Responsibilities / Duties:
The start of your Correctional career will begin with the GAP program at the Southern State Correctional Facility. You will be observing the duties and roles of a Correctional Officer, as well as becoming acclimated to the Correctional environment and preparation for the Vermont Correctional Academy. The duration of the GAP program will vary by hire date, in relation to the start of the next Vermont Correctional Academy. This is followed by six weeks of instruction at the Vermont Correctional Academy, where you will learn the core skill set of a corrections professional. After graduation, you will participate in eighty hours of on-the-job training supervised by a Field Training Officer at the Southern State Correctional Facility.
