Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is the steward of an integrated, multimodal transportation system that helps to ensure people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout the state. The Opportunity
WSDOT’s Information Technology Division (ITD) is currently seeking an entry level IT Workstation Support professional to support desktop computer hardware, software, and mobile devices. This position supports regional customers with standard computing resources, customized hardware, and software solutions as required to meet the business and strategic goals of WSDOT. The entry level IT Workstation Support professional is responsible for meeting the critical needs of employees who use desktop computing resources to carry out their mission of operating and improving the state's transportation systems and ensuring the safety of the traveling public in a 24/7 environment.
 
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the IT Workstation Support – Entry level professional will:
  • Install, maintain, and resolve peripherals, hardware, and software problems by replacing components, using specialized technical tools and test equipment to diagnose and resolve faults.
  • Manage and maintain operating systems and computer resources to ensure compliance with current standards.
  • Track and monitor IT inventory by assigning assets to individual users and business organizations, documenting assignment, and biennially auditing physical inventory.
  • Provide training for end users in computer hardware and software.
  • Install and configure anti-virus software and monthly security patches to ensure workstation infrastructure is secure from potential malware, viruses, and other vulnerabilities.
  • Actively respond to cyber security threats such as virus and malware infections.
  • Take lead on a variety of medium level projects for the Workstation Support Team such as PC or mobile device deployments, and application role outs while utilizing standard project management techniques.
  • Typically work in an office/data center environment, although site visits to Terminals and Vessels are required frequently. Hazards include driving to/from sites, lifting/transporting equipment, climbing ladders, using various tools (both powered and non-powered), and operating various mechanical lifts.
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an IT related program (may substitute a combination of education credits and years worked in a technology field totaling three (3) years or less).
  • Experience utilizing IT hardware and software including computer hardware and peripherals, Microsoft Operating Systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Apple(Mac) and standard Adobe products.
  • Ability to be in the office at least one to two days per week to staff our workstation support for in-person appointments.
  • Legal to operate a motor vehicle in Washington State.
  • Regular travel to various sites throughout the region.
  • Ability to provide, on an on-call, rotational basis, 24x7x365 support to business critical systems.
  • Must possess or is able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card within six months of employment.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
  • COMP TIA A Certification
  • COMP TIA NET Certification
  • Experience effectively communicating and providing assistance to a diverse set of customers.
  • Experience providing technical consulting and performing installation of IT hardware and software.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Operating Systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Apple(Mac) and standard Adobe products.

  • The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
