STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA is Hiring a Correctional Officer I (Trust Fund) - Orange County Near Hillsborough, NC

Description of Work

Reporting to the Correctional Sergeant, this position is responsible for establishing and maintaining accounting offender functions. This position responsibilities include the following:

  • Preparation of daily deposits, checks for canteen, offender releases, and family requests for bill payment.
  • Postage, welfare purchases; opening and closing inmate and employee accounts, transferring funds to other facilities, inmate special draws and money orders.
  • Ensure that the trust fund is in balance on a daily basis, and that all funds are managed in accordance with DPS Policy and Procedures.
  • Generate Daily, weekly, and monthly reports for the trust fund operations.
  • Respond to inquiries from offenders, staff, and family members regarding trust fund issues, responses are both verbal and written.
  • Make daily trips to the bank for deposits, loading release cards, and other needed transactions to meet the needs of the facility.
  • Answer telephones and provide assistance with the mailroom duties as needed.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) withState Benefits. M - F, 8am - 5pm Occasional CO Pull Post.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):

The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

About Orange Correctional Institution:

This position is located at Orange Correctional Institution, Hillsborough, NC, Orange County. Orange Correctional Center is a minimum-custody prison housing male offenders. The largest inmate population consist of minimum custody offenders.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Documented knowledge of clerical/secretarial experience.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
