State of Missouri is Hiring an Environmental Program Assistant/Analyst Near St. Louis, MO

Salary: $1635 - $2281 semi-monthly

Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality, and will be located at the St. Louis Regional Office, 7545 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63125

As an Environmental Program Assistant/Analyst you will be on the front line in protecting our natural resources by ensuring all Federal, State, and local regulations are followed.

What you’ll do:

  • Position conducts inspections, investigations, and compliance assistance visits of wastewater treatment facilities and municipal stormwater programs. Complete inspections in accordance with the PACE Manual, including a complete report of field investigations.
  • Sampling during inspections/investigations when necessary and submit samples with a chain of custody to the Environmental Services Program for analysis. Schedule and perform daily work without supervision and only routine oversight of work.
  • Make decisions during daily work and inspections/investigations using knowledge of the laws and regulations, and applicable work experience to determine if wastewater treatment systems are working properly and in compliance. Provide Compliance Assistance to permitted facilities in the field or on the telephone and document in SharePoint.
  • Implement policy/rules/laws concerning wastewater and stormwater quality. Possess the ability to explain to the Water Pollution Program how or if a policy is working based on field observations and suggest changes in their development.
  • Respond to other duties as assigned, including investigating environmental emergencies in the field such as sanitary sewer overflows and fish kills.
  • Take concern information from the public and investigate concerns related to wastewater and stormwater issues. Complete concern investigation reports, relay information back to concerned parties, and follow up as required.

All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 0-4 years of relevant experience. (substitutions may be allowed)
  • Ability to travel/valid driver’s license
  • Ability to climb stairs and walk over rough terrain
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Skilled in use of personal computers, various software, and databases

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills
  • Self-motivated and able to perform field activities without assistance or support
  • Commitment to customer service
  • Experience in environmental work, management, experience and/or formal education in waste management
  • Environmental testing of various media, environmental inspections work, training of staff, and emergency management
