Plant Supervisor

Position Summary

The Plant Supervisor is responsible for supervising a mid-size shop of 30 employees consisting of welders, machine operators, fabricators and general labor personnel. Our company, located in Farmington Hills MI, produces large production fabrications for automotive assembly lines throughout North America.

Supervisor Responsibilities

This position has formal supervisory responsibilities over other employees. Supervision of shop workflow, incoming materials, floor management and product quality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promote and support the overall safety and work environment.
  • Organize flexible production lines, machine setups and welding fixtures.
  • Inspect and advise on creation and operation of custom welding fixtures.
  • Facilitate in the proper implementation of different work cells,
  • Manage multiple projects from receipt of material through shipping finished product.
  • Monitor quality throughout entire process from first article inspection to final production shipping.
  • Manage workforce to efficiently process multiple jobs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Performance Requirements

Possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to coach, instruct, motivate and develop teamwork among employees. Self-motivated and able to perform assigned duties without direct supervision. Ability to troubleshoot daily production issues effectively and efficiently plan, analyze and problem solve.

  • Extensive Welding experience is required
  • Ability to setup machines, inspect welds, understand welding notation, follow and create Welding Procedures.

Typical Working Conditions

We operate out of a five separate building complex, so walking the site is an integral part of the position. The supervisor will need to be comfortable with all aspects of manufacturing; including material handling with Hi-Lo and cranes, hand welding, processing material by saw, shear, CNC burner, break press and other steel processing equipment. This work will not be typical of the job but is expected to be known and able to instruct others to do.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Some basic knowledge of computers, Auto Cad, MRP systems, outlook.
  • At least 10 years of welding experience
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of cranes, material handling equipment and other metal processing equipment.
  • Basic CNC machining knowledge
