Description of Job

General Information:

Under the guidance of the Director of Facilities, the Project Manager will coordinate and manage capital construction, controlled maintenance and general facilities projects for all of the properties owned by History Colorado. Projects are statewide and involve a portfolio of 50 contemporary and historic structures and over 2,000 acres of cultural landscape with budgets ranging from a few thousand dollars to over $2 million.
This position will work collaboratively with all appropriate internal divisions (Community Museum Operations, Collections, Exhibits and Interpretation, Education, Office of Archeology and Historic Preservation (OAHP), etc.) on programming and operational needs. The Project Manager will work as a team member in the following areas and expected to take direct responsibility for the organization, coordination, and successful operations of the areas assigned.

Job Duties:

  • Overseeing state building requirements for project management.

  • Assessing facility and land infrastructure needs.

  • Establishing construction project budgets.

  • Coordinating construction-bidding processes.

  • Writing contracts for construction projects.

  • Scheduling approved site visits with regional museum directors, architects, and contractors.

  • Managing of project meetings and schedules.

  • Reviewing architectural plans.

  • Performing in-house architectural/environmental design work as needed.

  • Ensuring information and project assignments are related to the appropriate personnel.

  • Maintaining project budget, scope, reports, and correspondence for assigned projects.

  • Processing project billing.

  • Ensures projects meet the State of Colorado fiscal rules, procurement and federal requirements as needed.

  • Preparing progress and project budget reports verify and process billing as directed.

  • Providing information to appropriate staff regarding project status and all proposed changes.

  • Maintains process and paperwork for project requests and project closeouts per the Office of the State Architect and federal funded project requirements

  • Coordinating with all required state and federal agencies.

  • Filing insurance claims and follow through with addressing the situations and repairs.

  • Works with volunteers and interns.

  • Filling annual reporting on land management issues.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Preferred: A bachelor's degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, historic preservation, planning, business management, history or a related field and/ or two years of experience in project management.
The Successful Candidate has:

  • An ability to think outside the box, the ability to communicate effectively, and ability to solve problems proactively and take direction. Strong management and organizational skills are essential.

  • Some experience in project planning, budgeting, bidding, and managing requirements, plan review, code review, and developing master planning objectives.

  • Either knowledge of or ability and willingness to learn State of Colorado Capital Construction and Controlled Maintenance Project Management and an understanding of the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
