StarTouch INC is a leading Regional Internet and Telecommunications Carrier with a privately owned Microwave and Fiber Optic transport network. Our networks support some of the largest Cellular and land-based Telecommunication Carriers in the nation and we could use your networking skills. We are seeking a Senior Engineer for end-to-end network design, implementation, and operational troubleshooting based at our Corporate Headquarters in Bellingham, WA.

Job Description

You will join both the Engineering Team and Network Operations Center as the powerhouse of technical expertise and leader in troubleshooting guidance.

The position will be responsible for providing network management expertise which includes designing, engineering, implementing and documenting changes to a multi-state carrier grade network. The network is a WAN/LAN microwave and fiber optic infrastructure consisting primarily of Cisco core hardware and numerous microwave RF and fiber optic devices.

You will be an engineering role model reporting to the Director of Engineering but will collaborate across all teams in the company including but not limited to NOC Management and field teams, as you mentor and oversee ongoing technical development on projects ranging from basic installations to complex routing solutions. You will act as the top technical point of contact.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement new network architecture to meet or exceed customer SLA requirements
• Advise management and peers of improvements to network performance, capacity, and scalability
• Assess risks associated with technologies and implementation styles and identify equipment and methods to minimize those risks
• Conduct advanced network troubleshooting and problem solving
• Identify process improvements
• Coordinate work and information sharing with all levels of team members including but not limited to fellow operational engineers, regional field managers and field technicians

Qualifications

• 4 to 7 years hands on experience configuring and supporting Cisco routers, switches, and other networking hardware
• Must have solid experience and understanding of MPLS and MPLS related protocols
• Full knowledge of all networking layers
• Advanced knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking protocols
• Knowledge of circuit types and transport technologies and capacity e.g., fiber, Ethernet, DWDM etc.
• The ability to effectively conduct technical training as the instructor
• Patience and skill in leading impromptu coaching sessions
• Superior time management is essential to this position

Desired Experience Applying Qualifications

• Experience managing & implementing MPLS networks and Layer 2 methodologies
• Experience with MPLS protocols and services (Layer 2, OSPF, BGP, etc.)
• Experience with Microwave/ Wireless PTP and Multipoint radio equipment
• Experience with industry leading monitoring tools such as NetScout, SolarWinds, PRTG, Wireshark etc.
• Specialized technical education in network and security areas. Technical vendor certifications -- JNCIA/CCNA, JNCIP/CCNP, etc.

Vacation

One (1) week of paid vacation after first full year of employment. Two (2) weeks after two full years of employment. Vacation time must be used during the eligible work year.
