St. Vincent Health is Hiring a Controller Near Leadville, CO

Position summary

The controller position is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards. The scope of the controller position encompasses responsibility for cash management and risk management.

MINIMUM education requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

MINIMUM work experience requirements

  • 2-3 years in hospital or physician’s office within accounting or finance department (REQUIRED)
  • Prior AP/Payroll experience

License/certifications

  • CPA preferred

OTHER SKILLS

  • Microsoft office, QuickBooks

Position duties (essential functions)

Controller

  • Maintain a document system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for archiving the department’s goals and objectives.
  • Develop and oversee organizational and departmental budgets
  • Oversee payroll processing
  • Oversee Accounts Payable Processing

Transactions:

  • Ensure that accounts payable are paid and in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
  • Ensure that payroll is processed in a timely manner
  • Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
  • Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
  • Maintain the chart of accounting
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions, post various general entries to record account activity.

Reporting:

  • Issue timely and complete financial statements
  • Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report, audit and cost report.
  • Recommend benchmarks against which measure the performance of company operations
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics, working with the CFO
  • Mange the production of the annual budget and forecast, working with the CFO
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  • Provide for a system of management cost reports
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing, decisions, and contract negotiation

Compliance:

  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filing

General

  • Exhibit a caring attitude to co-workers and visitors, including working cooperatively with others for a positive work environment and team-building atmosphere.
  • Complies with facility attendance policies and procedures; meets attendance requirements of the job.
  • Participates in self-growth opportunities/requirements and participates in training opportunities, in-services and meetings per department and facility policy.
  • Requests help and/or guidance as necessary in order to safely perform assigned duties.
  • Plans and organizes work activity to complete scheduled assignments on time.
  • Completes an acceptable work load and accepts additional tasks willingly.
  • Takes appropriate 15 minute breaks and 30 minute for lunch, or notifies Department Lead via email when unable to do so.
  • Understands and follows the chain of command when dealing with problems and concerns.
  • Complies with facility policies and procedures, including fire evacuation and disaster plans.
  • Deals with interpersonal conflict in a healthy and positive manner.
  • Completes occurrence and all other reports per facility policy.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and practice of standard precautions for prevention of the spread of disease.
