ABOUT THIS ROLE:

The Community Outreach Specialist (COS), is responsible for developing relationships with key corporate partners, community-based businesses and volunteer groups to continue the growth of the Food Assistance Program. This role will be recruiting sponsors and partners for mission-based events, developing creative and compelling content to support organizational and fundraising goals through innovative channels resulting in additional annual operating support for the organization. The COS’s primary goal is to develop and implement the sponsorship/fundraising program between businesses in the community and the Food Assistance Program. 

This role requires a passion for building partnerships, magnificent marketing skills and solid experience with event sponsorship opportunities within a nonprofit community.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Identifies and cultivates strategic partnerships to ensure key successes in the SWFL community engagement efforts, in partnership for St. Matthew’s House Food Assistance Program.
  • Develops plan for advertising and promotion materials to support sponsorship activation.
  • Creates and responds to varied sponsorship requests from charitable organizations and new and existing community partners.
  • Plans and produces an annual mission-based fundraising event for the Food Assistance Program; includes working with the marketing team, securing sponsorships, planning, and coordinating aspects of the event logistics and details.
  • Collaborates with internal program staff to develop and post compelling storytelling, imagery, and content through innovative channels, including website, blogs, social media, email marketing and digital campaigns to achieve organizational and fundraising goals.
  • Develops an integrated marketing campaign, working with leadership to increase fundraising revenue through nontraditional channels.
  • Represents St. Matthew’s house in community partner initiatives.
  • Prepares detailed reports, including but not limited to: weekly donor activity reports, timelines and pre/post event summaries, revenue and expense number associated with individual giving strategies.
  • Participates in a timely and accurate manner in all aspects of the Food Assistance Team donor database including, the follow: recording of all donation information for financial, food and in-kind donations; maintenance of communication records with donors; and proper acknowledgement of donations by producing thank-you letters and reports.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvements in process and efficiency.
  • Ensures proper donor stewardship including appropriate follow-up, meetings, drafting funding/impact reports, and developing proposals for moving gifts through the pipeline to become major gifts and larger corporate partnerships.
  • Supports the development of donor retention and recognition programs including but not limited to giving societies, kinship groups and tiered donation levels.
  • Remains current with fundraising trends including data, research approaches, and stewardship best practices.
  • Responds to phone inquiries about gift giving and shares information appropriately with team members and ensures team members respond in a timely manner.
  • Continuously builds and expands the network of donors through visibility in the community, recognizing and pursuing new opportunities and engaging with key leaders in organization to create support of Food Assistance initiatives.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university majoring in Business, Marketing, Communications or a related field.
  • Requires three to five years of successful community engagement/donor relations, fundraising, special events and/or marketing experience in a nonprofit organization or a corporate setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and strong public speaking ability.
  • Prior experience and track record of proven success in sponsorship activation is preferred.
  • Solid experience developing sponsorship marketing experiences and promotional programs.
  • Excellent and engaging presentation skills.
  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Prior experience in a setting where self-initiative was required and rewarded.
  • Demonstrated experience working well with diverse community groups including major individual and corporate donors.
  • Strong computer literacy and the ability to use Windows-based software, as well as, learn customized internal technology systems.
  • Excellent time management skills with a solid ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, while demonstrating attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Sound judgment skills and ability to make decisions.
  • A positive outlook with a desire to be accountable and take the initiative necessary to successfully accomplish goals and ensure an excellent experience for our donors, volunteers and team members.

Specifications:

Confidentiality: Works with confidential information. 

Mental/Visual Demands: Flow of work requires normal mental and visual capabilities.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift 25 pounds and move about the facility and possess the manual dexterity required to operate a computer and other business equipment. There may be extended periods of sitting, standing and/or bending; listening, talking and/or visual concentration; writing and/or computer use.

Working Areas: Office environment and occasional work in the warehouse or outside in the mission work (food distributions) and at times in inclement weather.

Requirements: Must be willing to occasionally work non-standard work schedule including nights, weekends, and other unusual hours do to donor events or meetings especially during the holiday seasons and disaster response situations. St. Matthew’s House serves three counties so there is often same-day travel between the counties, using a personal vehicle or work van. This role must be able to meet St. Matthew’s house approved driver requirements. This role may be required to transport oneself and/or supplies off-site to attend meetings, distributions and trainings.
