ST MARK LUTHERAN CHURCH POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: Property Steward for Maintenance and Custodial Services

Reports to: Pastor/Head of Staff

Summary of Position: This Property Steward provides custodial services for SMLC’s sanctuary and surrounding outdoor area. This person also provides basic maintenance, inside and outside, as needed on the church areas of campus.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Demonstrate commitment to the Christian faith and willingness to support the vision and mission of SMLC.
• Demonstrate basic knowledge of building maintenance and custodial requirements.
• Demonstrate ability to work with all necessary equipment and tools required to perform the functions of the job. Has read and signed off on OSHA guidelines.
• Demonstrate ability to stoop and bend as well as ability to climb stairs and ladders.
• Must be able to lift and support items weighing at least 35 lbs.
• Must be able to push and pull items weighing at least 35 lbs.
• Possess strong organizational skills.
• Be an initiating leader (self-starter) who can effectively manage responsibilities.
• Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work with volunteers and external contacts with tact, courtesy, sensitivity and good will.
• Demonstrate proficiency in using a computer.
• Pass the requisite background check.

Working Relationships: Works in close cooperation with all staff, church volunteers and theProperty Manager.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain baptismal font – draining, cleaning, repairing and refilling as necessary.
• Maintain and repair Memorial Wall fountain as necessary.
• Check all church areas– repair, replace, and arrange as necessary.
• Dust all sanctuary furniture – including altar, chairs, organ, piano, bell choir tables, windowsills, underneath chairs, narthex tables, and children’s Prayground area.
• Vacuum narthex and font carpet.
• Sweep sanctuary floor, along with old sacristy.
• Mop sanctuary, as needed.
• Purchase supplies online, as needed.
• Make basic plumbing, electrical, and other repairs in church areas of campus as needed.
• Check sanctuary, restrooms, font, and memorial wall fountain; correct for any anomalies.
• Maintain outdoor decorations, including signage and banners.
• Check and maintain irrigation system.
• Pick up miscellaneous trash and litter on church grounds.

• Mop social hall following use by SMLC and arrange tables and chairs there on special occasions.
• Maintain the church’s shop and custodial closet, and manage maintenance and repair of tools and equipment.
• Attend and participate in all scheduled staff meetings, Property Team meetings and specially called meetings.
• Other responsibilities and duties as determined and indicated by Pastor and/or Church

Council.

• Adhere to the guidelines outlined in the HR Policy of SMLC.
• Participate in annual job review.

***It is agreed that you will be free to perform outside work as your schedule allows and so long as job requirements are met satisfactorily.

Compensation:

• This is a 10 hour a week position.
• Current rate of compensation is $14.00 / hr.

Evaluations: Performance review will be conducted after the initial three month probationary period and annually thereafter.

Currently, when working indoors, all staff are required to wear masks. When working outdoors and socially distant, masks are optional.
