St Lukes Warren Hospital is Hiring a CT Technologist PRN (As-Needed) Near Phillipsburg, NJ

The Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist participates in technical duties directly involved with the CT Scanner including developing, initiating, and monitoring procedures for the effective utilization of the unit. Independently performs CT procedures at a technical level. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Receives and reviews request for CT studies. Accepts patient and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements. Introduces self to patient, giving the patient his/her name and title. Prepare patient for examination and explains procedure to patient. Interviews patient and reviews available clinical data from charts to alert nurses and/or physicians to possible contra-indications of procedure. Correlates clinical history with the test to be performed. Consults with referring physician regarding the patient’s history as needed. Assist in the administration of various chemical substances in order to render specific organs or systems more opaque. Utilizes contrast agents by missing oral contrast prior to exam. Performs IV access, using sterile technique, for the administration of IV contrast. Operates highly complex CT equipment to independently perform CT procedures. Relies on extensive knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and physiology, and effects of disease processes to properly and safely scan patient for maximum diagnostic yield. Obtains permanent records of examination digitally by capturing and storing the studies on the PACS. Completes patient exam data on the PACS and RIS. Generates the patient bill upon completion of the study via computer system. Provides technical assistance to Radiologists as needed. Maintains CT equipment and CT rooms in proper working condition. Maintains cleanliness of the equipment and work area at all times. Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to supervisory personnel. Performs daily Quality Control procedures of CT equipment. Quality controls all images, maintains inventory and adheres to all safety regulations. Checks images to assure quality of exams. Adheres to safety regulations for both patient and employee safety. Checks inventory of contrast and IV supplies. Performs work of equal skill, effort and responsibility as directed and may perform work of a higher level in preparation for increased responsibility. Assists with all other aspects of the Radiology department as needed and as determined by the supervisor and/or Administrative Director. May transport patients to/from nursing unit or other testing areas as needed. Attends all required safety training programs. Able to describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety and specific job related hazards. Follows the hospital’s exposure control plans including blood borne and airborne pathogens. Optimizes use of time by efficiently using resources to identify barriers and balance priorities. Efficiently utilizes tools, resources, techniques and/or systems to organize tasks. Balances multiple priorities simultaneously, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of each task while maintaining quality standards. Promotes effective working relationships and works effectively as part of a inter- and intra-department teams. Facilitates the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives. Foster an environment that nurtures collaboration, teamwork and mutual respect through effective communications. Demonstrates effective communication skills as evidenced by effective working relationships. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, family members, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional responsible and courteous environment. Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services and/or continuing education programs. Accurately adheres to downtime procedures to assure appropriate information is available resulting in excellent continuity of care for patients. Other related duties as assigned. PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate equipment and chart information. Sitting for up to 5 hours in 30 minute increments. Standing and walking for up to 3 hours in 15 minute increments. Pushing, pulling, and lifting of patients up to 300 pounds with assistance. Occasional stooping, lifting and raising arms above shoulder level. Lifting and moving of objects up to 30 pounds. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation. Seeing as it relates to normal vision. EDUCATION: Graduate of AMA accredited School of Radiologic Technolgoy as evidenced by a NJ DEP Radiologic Technologist license required. Registered or Registry eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology in CT (ARRT CT Certification). If not registered upon hire, must be registered within one year of employment. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: One-year of staff radiologic technologist experience. CT Scan experience preferred. Advanced CT registry required within 1 year of hire. Current CPR certification required.
