Part Time Day Shift

Description

Reporting to the CT/MR Chief Technologist and under the direction of the interpreting physician, performs CT examinations on patients for use by physicians in the diagnosing and treating of patient illness and/or injury and coordinates patient flow and activities of the CT scanner. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values.

Principle Accountabilities: % of Time Spent

  • Performs CT scans on patients 80%
    • Prepares exam room and equipment to conduct CT examinations in accordance with infectious disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures
    • Assumes respondibility for the safety of the patient during the CT examination
    • Reviews patient medical history, previous imaging, and supporting clinical information
    • Ensures that the CT examination order is complete, contains relevant information, and meets the standard of “medical necessity”
    • Evaluates any contraindications, insufficient patient preparation, and the patient’s inability or unwillingness to tolerate the examination and associated procedures
    • Communicates with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient’s ability to understand
    • Use proper patient positions tools, devices, and equipment adjustment to ensure patient comfort and safety, and to prevent compromised data acquisition
    • Conduct patient clinical assessment and perform the CT examination ordered by the physician in accordance with professional and facility scanning guidelines and protocols
    • Apply independent, professional, ethical judgment, and critical thinking to safely perform CT procedures
    • Apply independent judgment during the CT examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images
    • Except as authorized by written facility policies and procedures, refer specific diagnostic, treatment or prognosis question to the appropriate physician or healthcare professional
    • Identify and document any limitations to the CT examination
    • Review examination images and submit to PACS for the interpreting physician
    • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws (e.g. HIPAA) and facility policies and procedures
    • Adhere to accepted professional and ethical standards
    • Provide patient services consistent with the Scope of Practice and Clinical Standards for the Computed Tomography Technologist
    • Maintains appropriate supply par levels in CT examination rooms
    • Maintain cleanliness of the equipment and room
  • Equipment Use and Maintenance 5%
    • Performs quality control procedures to ensure that the CT equipment operates at optimal levels
    • Contacts BioMedical Engineering immediately upon finding the CT equipment is not operating at optimal levels
  • Documentation and Reporting 5%
    • Documents any incidental findings that may impact patient safety or patient care and provide that information to the interpreting physician
    • Operates the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)
    • Exercise responsibility for the maintenance and accuracy of facility database records and logs
    • Documents quality assurance and quality control results appropriately
  • Quality Assessment / Quality Improvement 5%
    • Works with the appropriate staff to ensure quality patient care
    • Carries out Quality Assurance protocols and Quality Improvement measures within the facility
    • Participates in departmental Process Improvement projects and staff meetings
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence 5%
    • Develops working relationships that are characterized by mutual support, open communication, trust and respect
    • Accepts suggestions for change or growth in a positive, self-development manner
    • Projects positive image of self and hospital when dealing with physicians, other departments, patients, families and visitors
    • Assesses own skills knowledge and identifies personal objective in order to improve overall performance as well as to enhance professional growth
    • Assists with the education and training of new employees and CT students

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    The technologist must have the ability to talk with patients and communicate with other departments of the hospital, maintain good working relationships, and to understand and carry out instructions.

    The technologist must be able to take call, work weekends, and/or late shifts as needed.

    The assessment, care and treatment provided by the technologist will be consistent with the specific age related needs of the patient. The technologist is competent to care for patient age groups including the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient. 

    Education

    Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology required

    License - Certification - Registration (Text Only)

    Certification in Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)(R) required ARRT certification in Computed Tomography ARRT(CT) desired upon hire or required to be completed within one year of hire Basic Life Support (BLS) required

    Reporting Relationships (Text Only)

    Member of a comprehensive healthcare team, including other healthcare providers, the patient, the patient's family and significant others. Takes direction from: Radiology Director, Radiology Manager, Radiologist, other physicians Provides direction to: Patient, patient family members Supervised by: Chief Technologist – MR/CT

    Working Conditions

    Employee is required to sit continuously and walk frequently. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) load frequently. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs. with assistance. Employee is frequently required to bend, squat, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. For repetitive action, employee is required to use both hands for simple grasping and pushing/pulling. Employee is occasionally exposed to electrical hazards and frequently exposed to computer work.

    (Occasionally: 1-33%, Frequently: 34-66%, Continuously: 67-100%)

    The most significant of duties are included but this does not exclude occasional work assignments not mentioned or developmental duties.
