Overview
The Comprehensive Cancer Center at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is seeking a Program Manager to manage and support strategic, scientific and operational projects in the Office of the Cancer Center Director/Executive Vice President.

The successful candidate will have outstanding capabilities in critical and strategic thinking, creative problem-solving, communication, and project management; and experience working in a scientific environment and coordinating cross-functional teams. The Cancer Center has a growing portfolio and this position has diverse responsibilities ranging from management and support of current initiatives, execution of daily activities of the Center, and development and management of new projects, processes and initiatives as opportunities arise. Among current responsibilities will be administrative leadership of The Science of Childhood Cancer, an internationally recognized virtual lecture series that has been attended by more than 6,000 scientists around the world since its launch in 2020.
The individual in this position will also collaborate with administrative leaders of other projects within the Cancer Center, including the Pediatric Cancer Dependencies Accelerator, a large-scale collaboration with the Broad Institute and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to identify vulnerabilities in pediatric cancers.
The role will involve frequent interaction with partners in other departments, as well as with faculty and staff across the Cancer Center and institution. This position will report to the Senior Director, Strategy and Special Programs, a PhD-trained scientist with a background in scientific communications, program development and project management.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement and/or manage strategic and scientific initiatives, projects, and daily operational activities for the Cancer Center.
Liaise and collaborate with faculty, senior leadership and partners across the institution and with external collaborators. Coordinate and lead cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
Organize inter- and intra-institutional in-person and virtual events and meetings, including international scientific symposia and seminars.
Conduct background research (e.g., scientific literature searches, landscape assessments, etc.) to help guide decision-making.
Analyze and synthesize data, create graphs and data visualizations, and compile metrics to evaluate impacts and outcomes.
Write, develop and deliver presentations, reports, emails, communications materials, and other deliverables using a variety of modalities (e.g., written reports, emails, Excel documents, or PowerPoint presentations) for leadership, program leaders, and other stakeholders.
Participate in the preparation of the St. Jude National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) competitive and annual renewals, monitoring and site review, and External Advisory Board meetings.
Education
Bachelor's degree is required
Masters degree or PhD in a biomedical/scientific field preferred
Minimum Experience
4 years experience in program management and delivery
Experience coordinating cross-functional teams preferred
Excellent writing and communication skills preferred
Ability to identify, develop, and initiate innovations and solutions preferred
Ability to work collaboratively, resolve conflicts; and create lasting, productive partnerships preferred
Ability to synthesize information, including in written or graphical format preferred
Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and overlapping deadlines preferred
Ability to handle sensitive information and communications with discretion preferred
Growth mindset; enthusiasm to learn and apply new ideas, applications, tools, and methodologies preferred
Familiarity with academic research environment, medical terminology and/or scientific concepts preferred
Research experience preferred
