ST JOSEPH VILLA is Hiring a Grants Accountant Near Richmond, VA

Overview

Under the direction and guidance of the Controller, the Grants Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial, accounting and grant support services in order to meet the needs of the organization and the donor(s). This position is responsible for preparing financial statements, maintaining cash controls, providing financial reporting and analysis. This position is also responsible for the operations of post-award grant administration and related accounting duties. Working closely with the program directors and Director of Grants Development, the Grants Accountant will focus heavily on budgeting, compliance, reporting and variance analysis functions. All work is performed collaboratively with and in support of other services offered by St. Joseph's Villa.

All work is performed within a systems-based framework and a psycho-educational model. Work is performed safely, effectively, to the highest ethical standards, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for non-profit entities and in accordance with St. Joseph’s Villa’s mission, values, and guiding principles.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the Accounting Clerk position to include recommending for hire and termination, developing, training, evaluating and discipling.
  • Coordinates the accounting functions related to programs receiving federal, state and private funding by:
    • Assisting program directors and Director of Grants Development in the financial budgeting, reporting, and other administrative requirements of the grants/contracts.
    • Monitoring/tracking the status of each program through its program life cycle from budget to close out.
    • Preparing, reviewing, and coordinating A-133 audit work.
  • Prepares, reviews, or directs all accounting entries (transactions and journals) related grant programs and restricted funds. Including deferred revenue, Unbudgeted Cost Center, the Grants A/R, Restricted Contributions, and other accounts as necessary.
  • Prepares invoice/billings and collects funds for the support of grant and restricted fund expenditures.
  • Prepares all applicable fiscal reports for sponsored programs and ensure the timely submission thereof.
  • Working closely with the Accounting Manager, computes, prepares and submits the annual indirect cost rate. Negotiates the rate with the applicable state agency as necessary.
  • Attends professional development training and stays abreast of the Office of Management and Budget Circulars and their applicability to grants management related to A-133 audit.
  • Writes, updates, trains and maintains the Grant Accounting Procedures, which will serve as the policies and procedures manual for all program directors over special programs and grants/contracts.
  • Directly consults with all stakeholders concerning the grant programs and other restricted accounts as they relate to financial administration of grants. This includes interpreting federal requirements and granting agency guidelines of such grants, and providing assistance on how to more efficiently and effectively manage their respective grants in following Villa policy, granting agency guidelines, and all applicable federal regulations related to special programs.
  • Maintains documentation as required by funders or other stakeholders.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Minimum of three to five years of progressively responsible experience in a non-profit organization specifically in the areas of general accounting, compliance, and grant accounting.
