Responsibilities

The Electrician works under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Plant Maintenance as well as under the guidance of the Lead Electrician. He/she performs a variety of duties relating to maintaining, repairing, and installing various types of electrical systems and equipment. Incumbent is guided by a thorough knowledge of the electrical trade, electrical codes and regulations, blueprints, specifications and equipment manuals.

Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and repair parts and assists in preparation of requisitions as necessary. Examines and tests various elements of electrical systems such as distribution panels, lighting fixtures, controls, motors etc., to locate faults such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections etc. Inspects, trouble shoots, cleans and repairs electrical circuits, controls and equipment and replaces faulty switches, wiring sockets, plugs, fuses insulators, heating and other simple elements of electrical systems and appliances. Inspects, adjusts, repairs and installs alarm signal, intercom and computer systems. Responds to emergency calls on elevator breakdowns and makes a routine inspection to report problem to elevator maintenance service department. Installs and anchors new electrical systems and equipment including distribution panels, conduit, wire, fixtures etc. Inspects and tests power isolation devices and regular or special electrical outlets and receptacles and performs routine adjustments and/or repairs on same consulting with vendor servicemen as needed. Other related duties as required.

Qualifications

High School graduate or High School Equivalency Diploma and one year of advanced trade school or experience as an electrician required. Familiarity with tools, methods, and techniques of electrical trade and knowledge of electrical and safety codes. Incumbent must be intelligent, verbal, have good motor coordination, and have good dexterity. Must have a thorough knowledge of maintenance fundamentals.
