St John Health is Hiring a RN ICU (Nights) Near Jackson, WY

JOB SUMMARY

Provides age and developmentally appropriate direct clinical care to preemie, neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric critically ill patient populations. Delivers care according to the Scope of Service for ICU. Adheres to and practices the SJH Corporate Compliance Program and participates in Performance Improvement activities. Floats to other clinical areas of the hospital per policy. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Patient Care

Obtains and reviews all patient data using observational, interviewing, interpretive and critical thinking skills in an age specific population and developmentally appropriate manner. Organizes and prioritizes care of multiple patients with varying levels of acuity in a timely, efficient and positive manner. Identifies changes in patient status, exercises critical thinking and independent judgment within the context of a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care. Develops plan of care that is unique to each patient's needs. Evaluates patient's response to plan of care and reflect measurable goals that are mutually set with the patient. Maintains, develops and updates nursing skills, certifications and licenses to implement ideal patient care. Practices autonomously and consistently with professional nursing standards. Identifies continuity of care for discharge and follow up. 

Patient and Family Education

Asses patient and family education, spiritual and emotional needs based on ~age/population, ~developmental level, ~readiness to learn based on patient perception, education level and expectation of care, ~patient understanding, ~available coping mechanisms, ~and outcome expectations. Initiates and incorporates patient and family education into plan of care and nursing practice. Communicates updated status report and clear information to patient and family to make informed decisions. 

Patient Safety

Identifies risk factors and provide for patient safety. Implement measures to prevent injury from environmental hazards. Demonstrates knowledge and awareness of medication action side effects and protocols. Safely and accurately administers medication. Evaluates patient response to pain management interventions. Initiates and completes computerized Event Reports for unusual events consistently and reports near misses. Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate use of supplies and equipment within safe parameters. Ensures equipment is functioning properly before use. Reports equipment malfunction following the appropriate reporting procedures.

Unit Specific Performance

Manages specimen collection, handling and disposition according to hospital policy. Labels blood specimens at patient bedside. Assists with and completes daily routines, i.e. crash cart checks, narcotic counts, urine controls, glucometer checks. Keeps department clean, orderly and stocked daily. Assists in the Performance Improvement process to improve patient care and professional practice. Charges all supplies and medications accurately and at the time of use. Ensures appropriate documentation of procedure, treatment and supplies to reflect and support appropriate charges. Ensures all documentation is complete, i.e. open encounters, care plans, implanted devices, according to hospital policy. Knowledgeable and acts accordingly regarding the utilization of resources for management of Code Blue and Disaster Preparedness. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

Required: ASN

Preferred: BSN

Minimum Work Experience

Required: Good interpersonal, phone and customer service skills and basic computer skills. 

Preferred: Two years ICU/CCU experience. Current CCRN or CEN, TNCC encouraged. 

Required Licenses

Current RN License with the authority to practice in the State of Wyoming and BLS required at time of hire. ACLS and PALS or ENPC certification required in 3 months of hire. CPI required within 6 months of hire.
