PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER II - Lindenwood Park
PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT
Starting Salary: $34,835.03 per year
This is a full-time position which includes a full range of benefits including Paid Time Off, Extended Medical Leave, Holidays, Employee Health, Dental, Life, Disability, Retirement, and Tuition Assistance programs.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this position is to perform general maintenance of buildings and grounds of parks; and inspects grounds to maintain safety. The work is performed under the supervision of Park Supervisor.
- Performs safety inspections of grounds.
- Maintains a supply inventory of items needed for grounds repair, upkeep and improvements. Places purchase orders for low inventory items.
- Performs annual landscaping requirements such as, pruning of trees, annual planting and replanting of trees, flowers, and shrubs. Applies appropriate fertilizer and seed to common grounds areas.
- Suggests capital projects for grounds enhancements as necessary and required and related to county grounds and supporting systems.
- Completes work orders documenting supplies used, time spent on projects, and job completion status.
- Acts as lead focus person for call-up of snow removal personnel.
- Keeps an accurate inventory of materials needed for snow removal and places purchase orders to fulfill needs.
- Performs turf maintenance tasks including fertilizing, seeding, watering, mowing and trimming. Rakes and prunes trees and shrubs. Removes trees and shrubs.
- Sweeps curbs and parking lots. Removes snow and ice from walkways, parking lots and building entrances. Spreads salt.
- Maintains equipment and performs minor repairs. Monitors equipment operation and recommends repairs or replacement. Maintains underground sprinkler system.
- Assists with plumbing, carpentry, construction/fabrication projects and electrical, light building maintenance.
- Orders supplies for ground maintenance such as fertilizer, mulch, pesticides and insecticides.
- Serves as a horticulture technician.
- Maintains knowledge of parks.
- Moves equipment in buildings.
- Transports supplies, parts and equipment.
- Escorts repair service personnel and contractors.
- Cleans shop and organizes tools.
- Fabricates parts.
- May be periodically required to assist in Park Programming and activities outside of normal job duties and hours.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- General/technical high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- A valid class A Commercial driver’s license with air brake certification, or have the ability to obtain one within six months of employment.
- Prior responsible work experience, ideally up to 1 year, preferably in grounds maintenance.
