Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate who is highly motivated and professional to serve as the Manager of Employee Screening and Recruiting. This position will coordinate applicant recruitment and hiring activities for all units within the screening unit. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and excellent organizational skills with a strong understanding of the operations of correctional or law enforcement centers. Essential Functions

  • Directs through subordinates, schedules for screening Correctional Officer and Corrections Treatment Officer Trainees.
  • Directs through subordinates, statewide recruitments efforts, background screenings/administrative reviews of files/records for potential Correctional Officer Trainee/Juvenile Justice Intern candidates.
  • Directs through subordinate supervisor the coordination and utilization of Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) statewide drug/alcohol screening programs.
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Travels to monitor statewide recruitment efforts.
  • Responds to telephone and written inquiries regarding screening, hiring, recruitment, background investigations, drug and alcohol testing.
  • Researches and compiles information for special projects using personal computer and installed programs, i.e., LOTUS, EXCEL, EZIQ, PAGEMAKER, WORDPERFECT, mainframe data base files.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college, preferably with courses in business administration.
  • Requires four (4) years of administrative experience in a public or business organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience planning, organizing, and executing an administrative or technical hiring or recruiting program.
  • Prefers four (4) years of experience supervising professional staff.
  • Prefers a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience working at a correctional center or in a law enforcement setting.
  • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience conducting training for professional staff.
  • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience working in a correctional or law enforcement hiring program.
  • Prefers two (2) years of professional experience developing policies and procedures.
  • Prefers one (1) year of professional experience in labor relations.
  • Prefers one (1) year of professional experience serving as a spokesperson for a company or agency.

Employment Conditions

  • Requires ability to travel occasionally; overnight stays may be required.
  • Requires a valid and current driver’s license.
  • Requires ability to carry state issued cell phone.
  • Requires the ability to be available to work outside of regular working hours as needed.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
