Spokane County is Hiring an Information Technology (IT) Technical Support Specialist Senior (OPEN & PROMOTIONAL) Near Information Technology 1208 W. Broadway Spokane, WA

This is technical, analytical and customer-oriented work involving support of the County’s desktop personal computers, mobile and peripheral devices, and complex desktop technologies in a networked environment. WHO MAY APPLY: This recruitment is open to all applicants meeting the minimum requirements. Priority consideration will be given to Spokane County employees in a position covered by the Master Contract submitting applications between 11/4/22 and 11/10/22. First consideration will be given to applicants working in Information Technology in a position covered by the 1553 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA); second consideration given to County-wide applicants in a position covered by the 1553 CBA; third consideration given to applicants covered by the Master Contract CBA; fourth consideration will be given to all other applicants. TOTAL COMPENSATION: $58,940 - $79,531.92 annually.Total compensation is an estimate based upon base compensation, median retirement fund contributions, and current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates (including medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability, and leave). The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.

Supports daily operational needs through the Information Technology Help Desk.

Installs new computer systems including operating systems and applications.

Upgrades and repairs computer system components including hard drives, CD-ROMs, video cards, sound cards, modems, memory, motherboards and processors.

Diagnoses computer system failures through evaluation and testing, and resolves with software or hardware modifications.

Provides technical assistance and training to all computer users on the County-wide area network.

Evaluates new hardware and software and makes recommendations to Information Technology Management.

Develops and maintains procedures for hardware and software installation and configuration.

Assists IT Systems Administrators with help desk monitoring and software installation/support/troubleshooting.

Provides training and assistance to other employees as needed. 

May be required to perform all duties of subordinate level classifications.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

AA in Computer Science or closely related field and two years of relevant work experience in the information technology field. Experience with relevant software packages, hardware and network operating systems.

In lieu of a degree, additional relevant training, certification or experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.

Knowledge of:

  • client based operating systems 
  • PC hardware and peripherals 
  • principles of basic networking technologies including connectivity issues and basic administration
  • hardware and software configuration and design in a large client based personal computer systems network

Ability to:

  • install hardware, operating system and application software for the County’s personal computers; perform hardware and software upgrades.
  • recommend improvements and modification to personal computer systems.
  • prepare reports on operations and activities as requested.
  • train, advise and assist personnel with technical problems related to personal computer software and peripheral equipment use.
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and customers.
  • communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • organize and manage time effectively.
