The Paramedic is an allied health professional whose primary focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. The Paramedic acts within the provisions of Code of Colorado Regulations Emergency Medical Services 6 CCR 1015-3 and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. He or she performs interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Paramedic is a link from the scene into the health care system.

Regulatory Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current Paramedic Certification, within state of Colorado.
• Current BLS certification.
• Current ACLS certification.
• Current PALS certification.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Must obtain certifications in IS-100.b or IS-100.HCb (Introduction to the Incident Command System), IS-200.b or IS-200.HCa (Applying Incident Command System (ICS) to Healthcare Organizations), IS-700.a (National Incident Management System), IS-800.b (National Response Framework, an Introduction), EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course) within six months of employment.
• PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support), AMLS (Advanced Medical Life Support) certification within one year of employment.
• Haz-Mat Awareness is preferred but not required.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license, with continued clear driving record required.

Language Skills:

• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Additional languages preferred.
• Self motivated and a strong emphasis on communication skills.
• Excellent customer service skills.

Skills:

• Basic computer knowledge.
• Strong communication skills.
