What are the responsibilities and job description for the Route Delivery Driver/Plant Nursery Work position at Southwest Aquatics?
Duties vary seasonally, hours averaging 40 hours per week. In spring and summer the main job is delivery driver. In Fall and winter the main duties are working outside in nursery plant production (mostly potting plants), and doing small building projects outside on the nursery property. The delivery duties involve delivery of pond plants and supplies to customers in Southern and Northern California from a wholesale plant nursery in Exeter. Each trip includes multiple deliveries; very physical and extensive unloading required. Driver generally spends one night away from home base per trip except in special circumstances, so in the busy season that usually means 1 to 2 nights in a motel per week. Company pays for an inexpensive motel and some compensation for food expenses. Deliveries are primarily to retail businesses and occasionally require collecting payment from the customer. Drivers generally leave early and accumulate some overtime when driving.
Additional Requirements:
- Completely clean driving history; please bring verification from California Department of Motor Vehicles to your interview
- Able to lift 100 pounds; strenuous hand unloading required
- Decent presentation and communication skills
- Ability to get along well with co-workers and customers
- Capable of reading, writing, and comprehending English fluently
- Moderate math skills
- Good problem solving skills
- Able to read and use maps well
Pre employment drug screening is required.
Current standard driver's license is required. A commercial drivers license is not required, but experience with medium sized trucks is a plus (our truck is a Hino automatic, with a 26' box and a maximum gross vehicle weight of 25,950 ponds).
