Position Overview

The Controller reports to the President and is responsible for managing the financial performance and accounting operations of the organization. This position will work closely with program and team leaders as an internal business advisor.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Responsible for establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems
• Reviews, interprets and ensures compliance with fiscal terms and conditions of grant and contract agreements
• Manage, plan and prepare operational and project budgets
• Ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions
• Supervise Senior Accountant, IT manager and Enterprise Applications Manager
• Oversee the work and act as point of contact for the outsourced accounting firm
• Assist with the annual audit by preparing schedules and answering audit questions
• Develop financial forecast/projections and anticipates potential risks
• Distribute monthly program/project reports to Southface President and Directors
• Provide support as requested to the Southface Finance Committee
• Coordinate the preparation of the monthly financial reports for the Board of Directors
• Provide timely responses to Southface staff concerning accounting and finance questions
• Partner with the Development Department to ensure grants management supports the accounting and reporting model
• Oversee the travel approval requests in accordance with Southface travel guidelines and operational policies and procedures
• Demonstrate a collaborative relationship with other departments, partners, vendors, etc.

Qualifications

The successful applicant for the position will meet the following requirements:

• Degree in accounting with a minimum of seven years of progressive experience
• CPA or CPA Candidate preferred
• A minimum of five years of experience working in a non-profit organization
• At least three years of supervisory experience
• Intermediate knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of Sage Intacct accounting software
• Knowledge of Salesforce CRM
• Effective time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Collaborative and positive team-building demeanor

Hours of Work

Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with flexible options. Occasional weekend or evening hours.
