Southern Illinois Health is Hiring a HR GENERALIST Near Carbondale, IL

Overview

The HR Generalist performs human resource-related duties at the professional level and works closely with the HR Business Partner team in supporting alignment of business objectives with employees and management in designated business units. The HR Generalist will perform duties in some or all of the following functional areas: customer service to all employees, employee relations, training, onboarding, payroll processing, benefits management, and policy implementation.

Responsibilities

Safety

  • Manages processes effectively in regard to employee/patient safety.

Record Keeping

  • Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, logs, files and other documents as required.

Process Improvement

  • Promotes a culture of process improvement by participating in unit/department based programs that supports the system’s process improvement goals.
  • Actively participates on system-wide or hospital-based teams as needed.

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
  • Establish strong relationships with other HR functional teams to provide timely and well-planned support. Work cohesively with the HR Business Partner team and the Customer Service team to support various functional roles in each area.
  • Establish strong working relationships throughout the designated location and the organization, focusing on strong customer service.
  • Work closely with the HRBP’s to develop and execute HR programs that support the organizations’ overall strategic direction.
  • Identify training needs for business units and individual coaching needs. Implement appropriate learning interventions. Participate in monitoring of success of training programs and ensure follow-up on training objectives.
  • Provide assistance and research support to HR, manager, and employees on benefits, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain employment policies and practices which comply with federal and state regulations, e.g. Harassment, EEO, FMLA, etc. Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Work jointly with HRBP to manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Assist in conducting effective, thorough and objective investigations and provide consultation while maintaining confidentiality and integrity.
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to management (e.g. coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Maintains confidentiality concerning personnel actions, legal issues, terminations, organizational plans, and acquisitions.
  • Conducts audits to ensure accuracy with the Lawson HRIS system, consistent enforcement of policies and procedures, and then provides recommendations to HR Leaders.
  • Schedule staff meetings and conferences by reserving facilities at local hotels and/or restaurants.
  • Create new employee personnel files and scan papers and documents into appropriate employee files.
  • Assist with or prepare correspondence.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field required or a minimum of 7 years of Human Resource Generalist experience.

Licenses and Certification

  • PHR or SHRM-CP Preferred

Experience and Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of HR and current industry trends. Background/knowledge in multiple HR disciplines (i.e. employee relations, employee engagement, organizational development, recruitment/retention).
  • Strong operational understanding of employment law, HR policies, and its impact on employee experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate with all levels in the organization.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion in handling highly sensitive, privileged, confidential, and /or non-public information in an appropriate manner.
  • Prior experience working on multiple projects while simultaneously managing competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to develop and sustain positive working relationships and influence others at all levels in the organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Strong computer skills with all MSOffice products.
