Responsible for leading a team of internal resources and external service providers during the development of Front-End Design packages. Leads all design activities, including management of resources, cost, and schedule, of complex, multi-disciplined projects. Provides leadership with the development and review of feasibility studies, designs, and cost / schedule estimates. Ensures GMPs, SOPs, Company Procedures and Good Engineering Practices are appropriately integrated in all design activities and design packages.
Job Function/Description:
·Managing internal resources and external engineering services providers for the preparation of Front-End Design packages
·Main point of contact with external services providers to define design scope, design budget, and design schedule
·Leads the development of the procurement strategy associated with the design phase, such that it provides the best approach for overall project execution
·Supports negotiations with A/E firms to arrive to the proper scope, cost, and schedule
·Interfaces with A/E firms during the day-to-day design activities. This includes overseeing and management of resources, cost reports, change control, and schedule
·Leads / supports multiple mid-range to large project designs, consisting of conceptual, basic, and detail packages (as needed)
·Ensures and is accountable for all deliverables including schedule milestones, financial performance, and quality of scope according to the assigned projects
·Establishes and monitors appropriate metrics to ensure safe, compliant, efficient, and timely delivery of the assigned project scope
Technical Lead and Resource Management Responsibilities:
·Sets overall technical direction to ensure compliance with GMP, EHS, as well as applicable codes and regulations the A/E design firms as part of the development of Design Reviews
·Manages internal and external resources to ensure:
·Proper scope definition
·Design team adheres to the engineering business procedures
·Required resources to lead / support projects are available by partnering with management and stakeholders.
·Uninterrupted designer support through all phases of the project, including construction, commissioning qualification, and ramp-up for the area of responsibility.
·Appropriate new technical solutions and technologies are incorporated in the project designs
Key Skills:
·Strong process engineering skills based on sound engineering and scientific principles preferably with a bio-technology foundation.
·Ability to design and influence outside of immediate scope of responsibility.
·Proven track record of management/leadership effectiveness.
·Must have strong communication skills in order to effectively communicate with all levels of professionals, both internal and external.
·Sound engineering decisions on overall project designs based on technical expertise
·Design team staff allocation
·Matrix Organization
Education Requirements:
·Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, with 8- 10 years of experience in laboratory, process and or facility design, engineering, and capital project management. Resource must have experience in the following areas:
·Development of project budgets & timelines
·Experience managing external service providers (A&E firms) during development of Front-End Design Packages
·Experience in defining, executing, and managing pre-conceptual, conceptual, basic and detail designs.
·Desired: Master’s Degree in Engineering
