Sony Corporation of America (SCA) is seeking an Assistant Director of Tax Planning to join the Global Tax Office (GTO) located in New York City. This is a highly visible position within an exceptionally talented team, reporting to the Senior Director, Tax Planning.

This is a hybrid role that will require 2 days on-site in NYC.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as a key tax planning and consulting team member for a number of US-based operating divisions with foreign affiliates.
  • Working closely with legal, finance, business development and operations personnel within the US and internationally. Will need to communicate regularly with GTO and divisional leaders.
  • Working closely with Global Tax Office colleagues in Tokyo, London, Singapore, Los Angeles and San Paolo - both tax planning and tax compliance/provision personnel.
  • Advising on proposed acquisitions, dispositions, JVs and internal corporate restructurings worldwide, including: conducting and/or coordinating tax due diligence for M&A transactions; ensuring tax efficient transaction structuring; reviewing and commenting on transaction documents; providing tax input to financial models; working as part of integrated team including legal, business development, finance and operations personnel and ensuring all options, issues and risks from a tax perspective are fully understood; contemporaneously documenting tax consequences of concluded transactions for tax reporting purposes.
  • Assisting with transfer pricing management and documentation.
  • Work closely with GTO colleagues on modeling, applications for and maintenance of multilateral advanced pricing agreements.
  • Reviewing and advising on outbound and inbound license agreements and miscellaneous business/procurement agreements.
  • Advising on tax consequences of remote working and global mobility.
  • Advising on tax withholding and information reporting requirements.
  • Coordinating with tax compliance/provision team to ensure the proper reporting of planning transactions that occur throughout the year.
  • Addressing US tax audit issues in conjunction with US tax audit colleagues.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 (eight) years of experience in US federal and international tax planning.
  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with a CPA and an MBT/MPA, or a JD is required. Experience in the entertainment or technology industries is a plus.
  • Ability to initiate and complete complex projects with little or no supervision.
  • Able to prioritize, work independently and communicate effectively with various levels of management, the business units and tax colleagues, both domestically and abroad.
  • Some travel is required.
  • Must be eligible to work unrestricted in the USA.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $165,000.00 to $175,000.00. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
