Sonoma Valley Hospital is Hiring a Lead Nursing Supervisor (Part Time, 20 hours per week) Near Sonoma, CA

Overview

Nursing Supervisors have 24/7 Administrative and Operational responsibility for the organization; under the authority of executive leadership. Operationally, they are responsible for patient safety, quality, staff education and service excellence. In addition to fulfilling roles and responsibilites of a Nursing Supervisor, as scheduled, the Lead Nursing Supervisor also acts as the point person for the department: Creates and manages schedules and daily staffing for Nursing Supervisors, including vacation requests; participates in interviews and provides input on hiring decisions; assists in training of new Supervisors and in the collection of performance improvement data; provides additional leadership in the absence of the Director, including review/approval of timecards.

Responsibilities

24/7 operational and administrative oversight for the organization. Acts independently in the absence of leadership and collaborates with the Administrator on Call, Nursing and Ancillary leaders as appropriate. Knows hospital strategic plan and aligns resources and objectives to achieve.

Exhibits confidence in self and others; inspires respect and trust. Holds employees accountable to values, clinical standards, accepted behaviors and confronts unsatisfactory performance promptly and fairly. Provides developmental opportunities for continuous learning and skill building. Collaborates with leaders for education training initiatives for staff.

Provides for safe and effective staffing of all nursing departments and respiratory therapy. Seeks to fill unplanned vacancies in staffing through collaboration with off duty staff and professional registries. Facilitates break relief and can relieve nursing personnel in ICU, M/S and the ED. Responds to Code Blue, RRT and Code Stroke

Attends to plant operational issues (fire alarms, oxygen alarms, etc.) in timely manner and collaborates with engineer on call. Resets alarms and/or performs fire watch if indicated. Retrieves equipment and/or supplies as needed by nursing and/or ancillary departments

Documents Nurse, RT and Hospitalist staffing in hospital computer system. Uploads nursing acuities in hospital computer system and determines appropriate staffing based on Title 22 staffing ratios and/or acuity calculation; whichever is greater. Knowledge of Title 22, CIHQ and CMS standards and conditions of participation. Emails End of Shift Report to Leadership

Participates in performance improvement activities as it pertains to nursing department with focus on patient flow, staffing efficiency and resource utilization. Assures timely transfer of admissions from the Emergency Department to patient care areas.

Assists Employee Health in determining compliance of, and administration of, seasonal flu vaccinations, mask fit testing , TB screening & questionnaire compliance.

Creates and manages schedules and daily staffing for all Nursing Supervisors, including vacation requests; participates in interviews and provides input on hiring decisions; assists in training of new Supervisors and in the collection of performance improvement data; provides additional leadership in the absence of the Director, including review/approval of timecards.

Role models service excellence behaviors: AIDET, rounding, monitors employee compliance to white boards and holds staff accountable to service excellence standards. Maintains own certifications, provides staffing availability according to department policy, completes annual educational requirements

During off hours, immediately assumes role of Incident Commander during identified disaster responses. Contacts Administrator On-Call for further instruction. Maintains role until handed off to more senior administrator.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of accredited RN program BSN or MS preferred

Experience: 5 years acute care nursing experience. Critical Care/ED preferred; 1 year or more Nursing Supervisor experience preferred

Licenses & Certifications: California RN license, BLS, ACLS, PALS

Required Skills & Knowledge: Able to assess, plan, implement and act independently in the day to day operations of the facility. This includes nursing and ancillary services and plant operations as well. The Nursing Supervisor is the eyes and ears of Administration and have demonstrated strong leadership and managerial ability. They maintain basic nursing skills in ICU, ED and Med/Surg.
