Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, The Accounting Manager is responsible for the smooth and efficient operations of the hospital's accounting department, and provides direct management of the day-to-day financial functions including: general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, budgeting, year-end financial audit, capital project management and cash management. The Accounting Manager ensures that financial statements are prepared in accordance with both Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Governmental Accounting Standards Board. Monitors financial performance by measuring and analyzing results and communicating variances to leadership. The Accounting Manager works collaboratively with other departments to improve organizational performance and supports the values and objectives of Sonoma Valley Hospital. Participates with organizational projects and activities assigned under the direction of the CFO.
Preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements in a timely manner. Oversee month-end close process and ensure accuracy of all financial statements and schedules.
Maintain accurate and complete accounting records. Review monthly accounting reconciliations and monthly journal entries. Monthly financial analysis of actual financial results to budget and report to CFO and other hospital leaders as necessary.
Supervision of all Accounting staff and functions, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management and Payroll, and ensures staff are completing their jobs to the best of their abilities with the resources provided.
Coordinate the preparation of all timely monthly financial schedules for the SVHCD Finance Committee and the SVHCD Board of Directors. Ensure schedules are accurate and prepared in a timely fashion.
Cash Management - Maintain an accurate monthly & weekly cash forecast to ensures the organization has cash on hand for payroll and vendors and any additional cash needs.
With direction from the CEO, assist the CFO and department leaders in the coordination and preparation of the annual fiscal year budget. Prepare all applicable schedules for presentation to the Board of Directors.
Primary contact for yearly financial statement audit - Provide work papers to auditors in a timely manner. Prepare the MD&A, Financial Statements and Footnotes for the auditors. Ensure adherence to internal controls and audit functions developed by the independent account firm and the Accounting Department. Assure that there are no negative findings noted by the independent accounting firm in their management letter accompanying the annual audit.
Maintain banking relationships and compliance. Prepare quarterly LOC financial covenants.
Submit annual district parcel number's to county for parcel tax. Annual calculation of the parcel tax rate for GO Bonds. Lead contact with County regarding all parcel tax items.
Provide direction, coaching and support to direct reports regarding professional standards, work quality, performance and accountability; collaborate on resolving problems and/or performance gaps; develop annual staff engagement improvement plans; and engage in regular communications (department meetings, one-on-ones, performance feedback, etc.).
Education: Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, is required.Experience: Minimum of 4-years of health care accounting and finance, preferable in a management role. Experience working in a district hospital also preferred. Must have working knowledge of healthcare finance, Medicare, Medi-Cal, and OSHPD. Licenses & Certifications: CPA preferredRequired Skills & Knowledge: Must be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge of accounting principles and practices, State of California financial reporting requirements, data processing programs and procedures of various business machines and their operations. Must be proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook. Management and analytical skills required. Must demonstrate well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
