We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to play a key role in designing our next generation of products.

Duties and Responsibilities 

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be pivotal in the development process, working with Industrial Designers, Product Managers, and other Engineers. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible with the initial design and feasibility of all products. This role is very hands on and will require not only design skills in CAD, but also a passion and a keen skill for fabricating physical models. The work is exciting, fast-paced and involves communicating directly with key customers and internal leadership to gather initial mechanical requirements and present design concepts.

How You’ll Do It

• Rapidly design concepts to prove function and overall feature-set
• Vet mechanical design concepts in the following areas: Stability, center of gravity, weight/ balance, magnetic attraction, ergonomics
• Define quantifiable mechanical test requirements and test at each stage of development: Magnetic Pull Force, weight, balance thresholds, center of gravity, ruggedness metrics, IPX, Material and Finish durability metrics
• Develop and build prototypes and run tests to measure their level of function using methods including but not limited to wood working, CNC, milling, 3D printing, assembly
• Work with internal prototyping team members and outside contractors to meet deadlines and fit/function requirements
• Participate in customer meetings to capture product requirements and collaborate on initial design concepts with Product and Industrial Design Teams
• Receive Industrial Designs and detail designs to mechanical feasibility
• Participate in Design reviews and incorporate design feedback into design revisions
• Deliver completed mechanical designs to Manufacturability team
• Support the product testing & pre-production efforts
• Provide input into tooling DFM changes and modifications as required
• Works closely with key leaders internally in sales, marketing, product and engineering teams

Requirements

Skills and Qualifications

· Ability to tackle projects in “sprints”: rapidly design, prototype and deliver feasible designs in 1-2 week period time frames

· Ability to effectively communicate throughout all levels of the organization to technical and non-technical stakeholders

· Self-Starter with a “whatever-it-takes” mentality to meet deadlines and customer needs

· Experience developing mobile device accessories, in particular: form-fitting mobile device cases, docks and mounts

· Experience adhering to medical, aviation or military specifications

· Experience working with and communicating with contract manufacturers and team members in Asia

Education & Experience Requirements
· Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

· 3 year of experience in a professional mechanical engineering position

· Investigative mind inclined toward developing practical solutions to real-world problems

· Proficiency with SolidWorks, Microsoft Office

· Proficiency with hand tools, power tools and fabrication equipment
