Position Responsibilities Leads the architectural and consumer product design and implementation process across multiple product areas including furniture, lighting and other industrial design opportunities. Actively leads, teams and initiatives to identify, research and develop SOM design products. Researches and develops new product areas. Effectively speaks to process, design goals, and team vision with cross-functional partners, executives, and stakeholders. Partners with the design team to help create roadmaps, and define key metrics to measure product success. Works iteratively from concept to detailed designs powered by research and data. Promotes a strong design process with all collaborators and designers. Contributes to product vision, design and technical decision making, including manufacturing limitations and understanding of minimum viable product. Prepares and negotiates agreements, with Leadership input, with external partners and collaborators including letters of intent, licensing, and service agreements. Collaborates to align goals including budget, deliverables and schedule. Gains agreement with the senior team for labor allocation. Communicates actively through regular meetings and accurate project record keeping and sharing project information and correspondence. Initiates, monitors and maintains project schedule and resources. Actively engages in project risk management through close collaboration with SOM Partners and legal group. Participates in customer research such as qualitative interviews, surveys, and user testing where needed Leadership Responsibilities Actively leads, trains and mentors team members. Directly supervises staff and is committed to direct reports’ professional development. Develops and engages in talent strategy to find specialists, leaders, and future professionals for the firm through resume review and interviews, as applicable. Actively engages in internal and external professional development opportunities. Develops and/or manages, in collaboration with team members, a clear and consistent work plan to achieve budget, deliverables, and schedule. Encourages incorporation of sustainable strategies in all project assignments, as applicable. Contributes to the development of standards, policies, and procedures. Protects SOM from financial and legal risk. Minimum Qualifications Minimum 7-10 years of professional experience with strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated success in product execution and launch to market. Completion of a Bachelor or Masters Degree in Business, Industrial Design, Architecture or related design field. General understanding of sustainable strategies and principles including familiarity with LEED or other green building rating systems Demonstrated ability to successfully lead project teams and manage project schedule, budget and program. Understands and is conversant in CAD, Rhino, and other graphic software. Proficiency in Google Workspace, Adobe Suite. Familiarity with Salesforce, Smartsheets.
